Historically,
Pithoragarh has witnessed the power struggle between various dynasties in
different eras. But the Chand dynasty has been most prominent among them all.
In 16th century the Chand dynasty
again took control over Pithoragarh town from the
Bums and in 1790 built a new fort on
the hill which now houses Girls Inter College.
