"The Life of the City"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Jun 22, 2017
The Police Bazaar comes alive every evening and I cannot explain how thrilling the experience is. It is situated in the heart of Shillong and anyone who loves street-markets must visit it without fail. The winding, interconnected streets can throw up some unexpected bargains at you. Especially for girls looking to buy the latest in fashion, this is where you should be. Also the perfect place to get a taste of the best local cuisine, especially hot steaming momos.

Police Bazaar is the main market area of Shillong. It is located the heart of the city. It is a tourist hub as most hotels, restaurants, emporium, taxi stand and bus depot are located here.

Police baazar is the heart of Shillong .. You may call it a centre point .. It's a shopping place .. You can get all types of commodities here .. Starting from handicrafts to tea and many others. Some good bakeries are situated here. There are also good hotels located at this place .. Shillong bus stand is situated nearby ... Cabs are easily available here .. It's a place to meet and greet ...

There are many options to buy in this market, full of diversities, you can bargain, many clothes, dress materials and electronics shops, you can try tribal food being sold around, if you are hungry and looking for north indian roti and sabzi, you will have to work hard to find one to dine in. The place is always crowdy, it can be reached by maruti 800 black yellow taxis which operate in Shillong.

"Just like the normal market"

  • 3.5/7
  • Posted Jul 3, 2016
However it is the central point of Shillong, but it is the usual market where everything is available from clothes to food to transportation. Most of the markets are open till 8 pm but some shops are open till 9 pm also.. Crowded place like any other markets, can also find some indigenous things.

"Centrally located Bazaar and best to visit around 5 PM"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Mar 25, 2016
It is centrally located and the hub for all the shop-keepers. Best time to visit the place is around 5 PM. Please remember the place gets vacant by 08:30 PM. Hence you need to do all shopping etc within that time and if you want to have food nearby then it is advisable to leave Police Bazaar by 07-07:30 PM.

"Awesome place to shop"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Jan 30, 2016
This is an awesome place with all the hustle and bustle. Lots and lots of shops I swear, you get local stuff as well as Chinese goods there. If you want to take a flight home, not to worry these special bags are available there which you can use as temporary check in luggage just in case you over shop.

"Awesome things at one place"

  • 6.0/7

Every traveller should visit this place as it is located with everything needed such as shopping malls, cinema hall, hotels, restaurant and taxis. I advice travellers to carry extra clothing on them. While taking a taxi please enquire for fare as some of taxi drivers demand more money than normal.

"Simply A Bazar"

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted Dec 13, 2015
This is main Bazar not of Shillong but of entire Meghalaya. From here you can buy everything. The bazar is spread on main road having shops on both side. We purchased some woolen wears from here. Pass time but be aware don't stay up to late night. It is dangerous to wander at night in entire Shillong.

If you want to experience the pulse of Shillong, Police Bazar is the place for you. Most hotels and restaurants of Shillong are here in this market. The best time to visit this market is in the afternoon, shop from the local shops, try the delicacies in the restaurants and take a walk through the staired alleys or the hilly roads while watching local people and tourists alike.
