Hotel Review of De Pondicherry Hotel
Comments: I had read a lot of great feedback about this hotel on the net and decided to try it out. I stayed for two nights.
Best Experience: My overall experience has been very positive though not overwhelmingly so. The staff are courteous and very helpful and a special mention has to be made of Shanthi at the front desk who took very good care of our needs. The location is excellent. Although it is not exactly on the beach, it is less than 100 metres from it. The hotel is a converted, old colonial style building and looks impressive from the courtyard; (although a part of the view is spoilt be the restaurant in the courtyard). Breakfast is not included in the package, nor does the hotel provide any leisure activities - which explains my ratings for these two items); since there is a cab agency next door and quite a few restaurants within walkinbg distance - - including one in the courtyard, this is not really a big handicap.
Worst Experience: I wouldn't call these 'worst' experiences, but here are some things that could have been better. It certainly made me feel that the place was a bit overpriced.

1. Although the overall facilities in the rooms - (clean sheets, towels, A//C, TV, water heater in the bathroom etc etc ) were good, the rooms themselves could have been maintained better. There were places on the ceiling that showed signs of water seepage. In one section of the wall the paint was begining to peel off. There was a big living room on the first floor, where the armchairs were covered with dust and cobwebs. While we didn't spend a lot of time in the rooms - these could easily have been kept neat and clean for guests who might want to spend a relaxed evening sitting there.

2. Guests could be provided with some information about the place, the history of the building to make the stay more interesting.

Hotel Review of De Pondicherry Hotel
The Hotel, which is located in the old French part of Pondicherry, is an old French mansion converted into a hotel and has an old world charm and ambience. There are 10 rooms, each of which has a different theme and decor. The rooms are clean, cosy and comfortable. The staff is courteous and efficient and takes all efforts to make you feel at home. Le Club, a restaurant in the hotel courtyard serves great food and cocktails. The Hotel...
