Hotel Review of Poovar Island Resort
Comments: It's the idyllic silent getaway that all of us dream about when stressed at work. What's unique is the confluence of silent backwaters and roaring seas which makes Poovar an exciting paradox!
Best Experience: The evening sunset boat ride is a revelation
Worst Experience: The room service could be faster....but then it gives you much more time to whet your apetite!

Poovar is excellent location. The resort is uniquely located. Take an auto rickshaw from Trivandrum (35 km, 1 hr drive, Rs 350). After you reach the boat jetty it is a 15 minute motor boat ride (free) to the resort through the backwaters. Floating cottages had been removed due to a government order. The resort informed us 1 day in advance. However the land cottages are also excellent. There is a beach on the opposite side (approachable by boat). The backwaters...

Poovar.. the word brings to mind open blue skies (i've never seen such a bright blue before), the beach, the backwaters and the rows and rows of palm trees, all together. Overall an excellent place to spend a quiet relaxing holiday amidst serene and beautiful surroundings. Food choice is limited and quite expensive. There is very little for children to do apart from the swimming pool, no activity centre or other games....

we stayed in a Floating cottage on the river Poovar facing the Arabian sea. The access to the resort is thru a ferry ride of about 15 mins. the cottage was well furnished with living and bedroom. Microwave oven, coffee maker & juicer with cutlery & crockery has been provided. The view of sunset was great. Its was simply one of the best location we have been. Kerela with its green cover can mesmerise any soul. The resort is well situated with good facilities. Its close proximity (30mins drive) to Kovalam beach is an added advantage, although Kanyakumari is quite far (80kms approx)....
