North Eastern holiday
I am planning a trip to the NorthEast of India. I would like to visit the states of Sikkim, Arunachal & Assam. I can take a 15day break from work. Do you have any info and experiences on this region?
Just wanted some travel tips:
1. When's a good time to visit this region? I dont wanna get stuck there in the landslides in the monsoons or heavy snowfall. Although being surrounded by snow would be lovely.
2. Can both these states be done in 15days? (Departure from Bombay.)
3. Anything besides the popular Pelling, Tawang, etc.
4. Contact nos of taxi services
5. An itinerary that covers these places
6. Any other info/experiences that you would wanna share. |

Suggestions for a long trip
Hello fellow travel enthusiasts. I am planning a trip covering north east. This will be for around 10-15 days in April/May.
Planning to cover:
Kaziranga (very short stay), Tawang, Bomdila, Ziro, Thimpu, Paro, Punakha, Wangdi.
Looking for a moderate budget travel, not too luxurious, not too miserly.
Will probably fly to Guwahati to start the journey.
Can you please suggest:
How many days are ideal for covering these places?
Which hotels do you recommend?
Which month or time is ideal (are roads opened and cleared by early April? is it snowing/raining there in April/late May?)
Which places to skip (if any)?
Which places to add (how is Sela pass, Dirang, Nameri? Which is better out of Nameri and Kaziranga? Any other places around Tawang to experience the majesty of Himalayas?)
Any problems that one could face regards to terrorism/communal/border tension?
I have read that Bhutan has to be covered on a preplanned trip from a Bhutanese travel agency. Any experience on Bhutan travel? How are the hotels that come with the deal? How are the road trips?
For visiting Bhutan - Is by road - Phuntsholing a better/practical option than by flight to Paro? How expensive are Druk air flights to Paro say from Kolkata (Tried their website but to no avail)?
How long does a drive from Guwahati to Tawang take? Is the drive too strenuous?
I may be asking too much for one person to answer all of my questions, but it would be of a great help if you could answer few. I will appreciate it even more if answer comes from previous experience.
Just for background, we have already covered Darjeeling, Gangtok-Tsangu-Baba Mandir (Nathu la), Kalimpong, Shillong-Cherrapunji-Mawsynram, but not any other place in North East.
