The
saucer shaped valley
of Pachmarhi was
discovered by Captain James Forsyth of the Bengal Lancers in 1857. The British were so taken in by the beauty of
the hill station that they developed Pachmarhi as a summer capital. Even today,
you will find the region dotted with Victorian churches and bungalows
reminiscent of the colonial era.
The
vantage viewing point where Forsyth first
sighted and fell in love with the area was named Forsyth Point. Today this has
been renamed Priyadarshini Point. The valley with its pleasant weather
is a beautiful weekend getaway and well worth a visit.
