Hotel Review of Wanchoo's Kamp Site
Comments: A REWARDING EXPERIENCE BY CHANCE
On my first day in Pushkar I just dumped my backpack in one of those houses that rent out a room per day. I hired a bike to look around on my own away from the tourist hang out as I wanted a different vacation. I went on a road and cycled with farms on either side. On my way I came across a board of Wanchoo Agro Farm, Kampsite.I just turned to see the place and I came across a farmstead. I went in and said hello, anyone around. I met an elderly couple and they took me around their farm, which had mango, goose berry and Indian black berry, guava and other Indian berry trees. I smelled the fragrant Indian rose which is pink in colour and red roses.
There were birds, cow, goat and marigold flowers too. In the Mango grove they had 2 lovely cottages with attached bathroom, had good furnishing.
The couple had travelled within India many countries ,so they were very knowledgeable. I could find warmth and some instant appeal to the place. I went back to my rented room and moved out with a big thank you . I did pay my one day's room rent.
I moved into the cottage and soaked myself in a tub to have a leisurely bath.
Best Experience: There are many highlights. I liked the good Indian breakfast of halwa and parathas along with some usual western breakfast. I enjoyed the home made pickles ,jam, jellies and chutneys. The breakfast and bed tea is included in the tariff. Bed tea is a very Indian concept , I felt. I would eat a brunch and then return for dinner. I would be dropped on a motorbike or car to Pushkar and when I wanted to come I had to call for the vehicle again.
I could eat at any time and be on my own. Get a sandwich or pasta for dinner. I just had to give my choice of food. I enjoyed eating with the couple as I got to know so much about Indian culture, tradition, Hinduism, myths and rituals. I went to village homes and interacted with them through the couple as my interpreters.
I learnt a few recipes from Raju, the cook and handyman.
Worst Experience: One day I thought of taking a taxi to go on my own rather than troubling my host. I had to shell out Rs 200 for a 3 kms drive. I did not repeat the mistake and asked my host to send Raju to pick me up
