Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary

The Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the chief attractions among wildlife enthusiasts. The wildlife reserve is spread over an area of 102 sq km, situated in the Western Ghats. Dense cover of evergreen forests, semi-evergreen forests and Shola grassland of the sanctuary provide shelter to innumerable wildlife species.

The altitude of Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary varies from 160 to 1712 metres with Pushpagiri Peak in the north being the highest peak. The other notable peak of the sanctuary is Kumaraparvatha Peak. To the north, the sanctuary adjoins with Bisle Reserve, whereas Kukke Subramanya forest range lies in the west.

Elephant, leopard, jungle cat, wild pig, spotted deer, barking deer, mouse deer and common otter are some of the species found in Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. Besides, the reserve is home to jackal, hare, common mongoose, small Indian civet, common palm civet and porcupine.
