A short distance away from Golconda fort lies the grand mausoleums of the seven Qutub
Shahi kings who ruled Golconda
for nearly 170 years. The magnificent cluster of tombs called the Qutub Shahi
Tombs is the most eloquent specimens of Indo-Persian architecture and
constitutes a storehouse of history.
The tombs of the various luminaries of
the royal family are situated amidst beautiful sculpted gardens. As you walk
amongst the greenery, you will marvel at the sheer artistry and architectural
brilliance of the tombs that still retain their original glory despite the
ravages of times.
The sprawling well laid out gardens
here make for an excellent picnic spot. Against the historical backdrop of the tombs,
a Deccan Festival is held every year where leading artists of the city showcase
their talents in the field of music, dance and drama.
