Rameshwara Temple is located on the banks of the Lakshmana Tirtha River, near Nagarhole. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and remains crowded during the Maha Shivaratri celebrations. It is considered to be a very sacred place, owing to the belief that all sins can be cleansed after offering prayers to Lord Shiva. As per the Hindu mythology, it is said that Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana passed through Brahmagiri Range in search of Sita.
While passing through this mountain range, Lord Rama asked Lakshmana to fetch him water. For bringing water for his elder brother, Lakshmana hit an arrow into the hills. Since then, the stream originating from this place is known as Lakshmana Tirtha.
