Ideal for weekend wit authentic Bengali food

5.1/7
Posted 7 Nov, 2013

I visited this place with my wife last April. The place is ideal for a quiet and peaceful weekend. The rooms are neat. The toilets are clean. The location is close to the Vishwa Bharati university . . The staff is courteous. The food is traditional Bengali dishes and well prepared. The breakfast consisting of "luchi' and "aloo" was unforgettable. The staff were prompt in bringing tea whenever ordered. The atmosphere is almost homely. They also provided us with a regular supply of mineral water bottles as required by us . You can spend time on the big balcony which has nice seating arrangements. The front garden is beautifully made The staff even arranged a car to take us back to the station as was required by us.

A great place to relax with perfect ambience

4.6/7
Posted 23 Apr, 2014

Santiniketan is a great place to relax and to be with yourself. Its the place to unwind yourself from the pace of city life. My travel to Saantiniketan always give me that inner peace Rater Tara Diner Rabi gives the perfect ambience for that. Very homely and the best part is the beautiful garden in front of the guest house. Even better when its in full bloom. Staff are very friendly and so is the. They have free WiFi, comfy rooms (stay at first floor), food is homely (but try eating outside also - Santiniketan have some great eateries, Sakuntala, Banalakshmi and there is another restaurant just beside the movie hall in shantiniketan), car parking is also no problem. We stay there during most of our visits in Santiniketan. The place is a bit pricey but we love the place. Ask the hotel for arranging a Baul song evening. Every time we go there we try to arrange one and its so refreshing. You need to pay the Baul team separately as guest house does not pay that. But its not so expensive ( you need to negotiate). Also you can try Adivasi dance and songs (local tribal dance and songs). I have never tried though. They (the tribals) try to charge more (you need to bargain heavily). Also try for the Saturday Haat (market). It will be a great experience near the Khowai. You can also visit the Kopai river and if you are lucky you can get a Baul singer there. Sit there, have tea and listen to bowl song (you need to pay the bowl). The experience will be worth it. Please take a trip to the University with the guides available. The guides come with a price but the experience will be worth it. You will get to know the richness and history of Santiniketan and Rabindra Nath Tagore.

Beautiful hotel within your budget

6.9/7
Posted 16 Jun, 2013

It is a pleasure in penning a few lines in praise of Ratera Tara Dinero Rabi Guest House, a really distinguished guest house where I had the privilege of spending a few last winter days. My heartfelt appreciation begins with the name of the Guest House. It has been coined from a well-known Tagore song, which has the message of acceptance of life and nature as they are. It may be recalled here that the poet wrote this song and set it to tune when he was in a voyage through the tumultuous China Sea. The impending peril of the ship and the voyagers distracted all but the poet, who could maintain the calm of his inner self and create such a wonderful lyric. The song speaks of the eternal order of light and darkness, bliss and sorrow of life. The name of the guest house thus touches such a cosmic height. The very first look of the guest house strikes a joy in the heart of a sensitive border that is offered an amazing sight of the Eden Garden with thousands of blossoming flowers all around the path from the gate to the entrance of the building. It is evident that the work of horticulture there is not a mere business oriented decoration. It is the creation of a genuine lover of gardens. The riot of colours along with the lush green plots engages us so much that we forget for the time being that we have to sign register and look over the rooms we are allotted. After the necessary formalities, I entered the room furnished fully with all conceivable modern amenities. My wistful eyes were glued on to two musk-like faces sculptured on two opposite walls. Tired I lay down on the neatly prepared bed and looked up. A second surprise was awaiting me on the ceiling with sparsely done frescos there. I wondered how these works could have a place in a guest house. At the dining hall it was all a delicious experience. The variety of the breakfast lunch and dinner would suit all tastes. I must admit that it suited my choosy gastronomy. It is 4 km away from the Bolpur railway station and 1. 25 km from the Ashrama. This distance is a blessing in disguise, for it is far away from the madding crowds and free from all sorts of pollutants-air dust and noise. How I wish to be there again.

Stay in a pleasure amidst nature with average room

4.8/7
Posted 30 Nov, 2015

This was my 2nd stay at. We had aged parents along with and so quite apprehensive about their comfort. The resort looks very good amongst a beautiful garden with rare cacti, a comfortable swing etc. The food quality, serving and menu were excellent and specially to mention the pantry staff and the manager who were very friendly and well behaved. Location wise, the resort is situated away from the crowd and jammed roads from station and khoyai, prantik and shayorbithi are nearby. Improvement is requested in the rooms, we stayed in room no. 1, 3 and 7. Both 1 and 3 have worn out looks, the bathrooms need renovation. The bed linens were clean, but discoloured. Same with the towels. New sets are needed. Room no. 7 was better, but there were too many stairs inside the room and my 75yrs old father felt uncomfortable regarding the same. The resort surprisingly runs on inverter and not generator. We had to spend one full night and part of morning without power as the inverter gave away due to excessive load shedding. We had been told that it was full and final payment when we transferred the full amount in advance, but at the time of final billing service tax was charged separately but no formal bill was issued. My opinion if service tax is being charged, proper printed bill with bill no. May kindly be issued to guests. I would definitely want to revisit.

Food was excellent but varieties should be improved

6.0/7
Posted 30 Jul, 2014

Initially I did not find any difficulty in reaching the hotel since it was appropriated situated. The staff were quick to attend and the appearance was fine. The rooms were neat and clean but not spacious. All amenities provided were in operational condition but no view was grasped. Food was excellent with lots of varieties but no activities were arranged. No problem in check-in and check-out process. Overall, stay was value for money and definitely I propose this hotel for others travellers. I suggest to improve still more varieties since only Bengali food was available. This was a relaxation trip with family and I am from Calcutta.

Quiet little place nestled in the arms of Shantiniketan

6.8/7
Posted 13 Mar, 2013

"Now it is time to sit quite, face to face with thee, and to sing dedication of life in this silent and overflowing leisure. " - Tagore If you are looking for just some random weekend get-away then this is surely not your kind of place. However if you are blessed with a more inquisitive self and wish to immerse in a celebration of culture, tranquility and peace, then this is that "quiet little place" nestled in the arms of Shantiniketan where the presence of "the poet" is almost heartfelt and ubiquitous. The attention to detail is amazing: the murals on the boundary walls depicting lessons from "Shahaj Path", the beautifully landscaped garden in the front, the furniture in the large balcony on the 1st floor which is locally designed, even the number plates on the rooms - all seem to be in complete harmony with the entire ambience. There is a sublime touch of lazy elegance in all the appurtenances that have been placed around ; a lot of time and attention has been invested in structuring the look and feel of this place. There is hardly anything out there which hasn't blended in with the surrounding or appears completely unwarranted. The effortless marriage of nature and serenity with expert craftsmanship is what makes this guest house truly remarkable. The rooms are nice and spacious and the support staff is exceptionally friendly and service oriented. Me and a couple of buddies went for this weekend trip and the support staff pampered us by relentlessly adhering to our requests for black coffee and tea even at odd hours. The simple Bengali food that is dished out is good and one can ask for bottled water. The unobstructed view from the balcony is great and one needs to just laze around in one of those rocking chairs after sundown and experience the solitude. It's a defining Shantiniketan moment. If the sky is clear, I would strongly recommend a late night stroll in the terrace where you can spend an hour or two stargazing and catching up with old friends or enemies. ( If you are attentive you can even hear the Duquesne whistle blowing in Laval Maati). For those among us who have been in city pent, we don't see this kind of a night sky very often -do we? And that kind of justifies the name. Saumya Banerjee, Chicago.

Spacious well-furnished room with modern amenities

6.0/7
Posted 1 Jun, 2014

Santiniketan is a place which offers the serene beauty of rural Bengal and the cultural heritage of Tagore and his works together. The hotel is located at close proximity to the Khoai region which for its vast beauty and romantic ambience made a permanent place in Tagores literature. The hotel offers clean spacious refurnished rooms with all modern amenities. It also offers good food if one is particularly interested in traditional Bengali cuisine . . The near by Visva Bharati University campus, the small scale industry hub Amar Kutir, the tunes of traditional baul music in the Saturday fair are all add to the charms and attractions of this great place. There are many more interesting places near by which one can make a plan to include in this trip. The hotel staff are very friendly in nature and offer good hospitality. Its worth spending two-three days at this hotel in Santiniketan.

Good hotel

A beautiful place to visit. We thoroughly enjoyed Santiniketan trip. The Saturday and Sunday HUT is real experience with the atmosphere of village trading. Purchased few Items with novelty with added entertainment of Baul Sangeet Staying at Rater Tara Diner Rabi, an experience of homely treatment from the authority. The Guest house is really quite comfortable distance for both HUT and Tagore's Museum and University Food at Rater Tara Diner Rabi is just like home made food but for Sr. Citizen like us they obliged giving food as per our need in reasonable price. They took really very good care Rooms we stayed were in ground floor, it were so and they can't help because of Architectural design of the building. But one want to enjoy his stay they should plan in advance and get accommodated in first floor rooms then only you get full value of visit to Santiniketan Overall it was very satisfactory Trip and looking forward more

Spacious rooms; river view; no activities

5.5/7
Posted 13 Aug, 2014

Hotel location was good so no problem to reach there. Surrounding of the hotel was nice. It was near to bus stand and railway station. Staff nature was so-so but they were not qualified. They were helpful only. Inside and outside appearance of the hotel was nice. Room was also nice. It was spacious. Pillows, bed sheets, blankets, wash rooms or everything was in clean condition. River view was not seen from the room. TV, geyser, AC, etc. Were in working condition in the room. Food was good and hygienic. Check-in and check-out procedure was done easily. I was happy with the room allotted. It was a small hotel and no suggestion was there for development. Standard staff they should be there. They did not provide any activity. Garden was good there. They did not arrange for any sightseeing trip. I went there with my family. It was a relaxed tour. It was a good experience for me. It is a recommendable hotel to others.

Very good food service

The stay was good and location was convenient. Surrounding was not good. Hotel staff members were nice. Hotels interior was beautiful but from outside its not up to the mark. Rooms were spacious, well maintained with hygiene provided with AC, pillow, blankets, TV, Geyser. No special views however there was a beautiful garden. Food was good with all kind of variety but on limited scale. No delay in check in and check out. Good value for money. I would definitely share about this place with my friends. Improvement of the hotel gate has to be done. I had been there for the business purpose with the family.

I had been to Rater Tara Diner Rabi Guest-house along with my family of 3 heads and taken one double bed, AC with extra mattress at ground floor though I was with the impression that room would be dark and damped with mosquitoes moving around but actually, room was sufficiently airy with adequate lights available throughout the day and rooms are well maintained, superbly cleaned and beautifully decorated. Generally we moved around Shantiniketan whole day for sightseeing and came back in the evening, got hot tea ready with veg pakoda to relax after hectic tour. Foods were simply fantastic particularly un-common items like Sukto, Bieulir Dal with Alu Postor Tarkari, Dhoker Dalna and Chitol Macher Muittha in other day and we experienced no repetition of any items during our stay for 3 nights. We have tasted delicious Bhapa Hilsa, Doi Vetki and wonderful Tel Koi (fish) was simply outstanding. Same variety of foods in Kolkata we used to pay more amounts in Bhajohari Manna & 36 Ballygunge Palace but in Rater Tara Diner Rabi Guest-house, we felt it very much reasonable. They are having two cooks namely Prasanta and Pradip, they are simply outstanding for preparing Bengali dishes, we have requested to prepare Pui-chingri and Potoler Dolma on check-out day during lunch and in our utter surprise, they served both the items, which were simply awesome. We personally thank them for keeping our request. All Staffs were always smiling, placed before us quickly whatever we ordered and we felt homely after getting their services always at our beck and call. I am a frequent traveler to Santiniketan and I tried almost all the places there but after staying here I have taken decision that henceforth, RTDR Guest House would be my permanent address during my all future visits to Santiniketan.

The guesthouse is very near to Santiniketan Main Campus and other important places such as Khoai, Handicrafts Fair (Saturday?s Hut), Prantik Township, Shyor Bithi Eco-park, Kopai River & Kankalitala. Entire locality is very clean and covered with big green trees but not in an isolated place and evening Baul songs (on our request it was arranged) given us real taste of Baul culture. Room was properly cleaned and well maintained, staffs were cordial & well behaved and quality and items of foods were simply praiseworthy. As per me, the prices of food were very reasonable compare to quality and quantity they served. Few Bengali items like Dhoker Dalna, Pui Shrimp, Potato-Jhinge Posto and Beulir Dal were simply very tasty and fascinating beside regular non-vegetarian items. Lastly, I must praise the taste of the management to decorate the rooms, porch, tiny dinning hall and adjoining beautiful garden maintaining the taste of Santiniketan culture.
