"Redhill Nature Resort is located..."

  • Posted May 9, 2010
Redhill Nature Resort is located about 30 kms from Ooty town. If you have a small car like I did, they give an option of leaving it behind in Ooty and they organise transport at a cost of 1200 - well worth it. A small part of the drive is treacherous. After 1 hour and 15 minutes, you realise why you paid the 5000 rupees for the night. The view is nothing short of breathtaking! The resort overlooks the beautiful \'Emerald Lake\' with tea and vegetable farms all the way in between. They have 8 rooms, of which 3 are front facing. We were lucky to get the front facing room. The experience was really romantic with a luxurious King sized bed overlooking huge windows which stretched from one end of the room to the other. The morning view can not be described and must be experienced. Be sure to let them know you need hot water. They need to fire it up. The dinner place was alright. A fusion between an English fireplace with an Indian look didn\'t go too well with me. The food wasn\'t something to rave about either. A walk into the vegetable garden was really awesome. I got to see where my lettuce, broccoli and baby veggies come from. Petting the cows was exotic in the farm unlike the cows in the city which we don\'t really care about! The weather turned against us which spoiled our fishing plans. We had to run along as the weekend was over. But the stay was too short. One night is not enough to really relax and enjoy the splendour of Redhill Nature Resort. The hosts were really nice people and so was their Alsatian Moby.

Best Experience: The view - I was very particular that we do get a front facing room. For those who are not as particular, you will still have a decent experience.

Worst Experience: I wouldn\'t say \'worst\' experience but the food could have been much better.

"Excellent weekend get away from..."

Excellent weekend get away from the din and bustle of city life. After a horrible stay for one night in the over-crowded and pathetically commercialized Ooty town, we went to red-hills which was just heavenly. The resort, about 30kms from ooty is located in an excellent position overlooking the Emareld lake and tea-plantions on one side and the hills on the other. The resort is actually an 145 year old bunglow and very nice looking. The interiors inside the cottages are decorated in a way to give you that exotic feeling. The food is very good and the owners Courteous people. safery through the hilly jungle is an awesome experience and we were extremely lucky to spot a leopard. This place is a must visit.

Best Experience: To start with the location and ambience of the resort. Secondly the view of the day-break and sunrise from the resort is just heavenly. Thirdly the completely unexpected spotting of a leopard during the safary just made our day.

Worst Experience: Roads are really bad after Emerald bus stop (a strech of about 10 kms). However this somehow adds in to the whole experience of remoteness and being so close to nature. The only other thing which could have been better was the condition of the bathroom fittings. We faced some problem in getting both hot and cold water simultaneously.

"The view from the resort..."

The view from the resort is beautiful. I made the right choice to visit this place. You will feel lucky to wake up to see the Emerald lake from your window early in the morning. It is calm and pristine. This is one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen in my life. It is about 28 kms from Ooty. Some parts of this road is pathetic and please ensure that you have a 4 wheel drive before venturing into this terrain. The resort owners do give an option for pick up from Ooty and they would drop you back too. They charge Rs 600 for each ride. The food is fabulous, although people who are adamant about eating extemely spicy food may not like it. One has have an open bent of mind to enjoy the food. Please do not expect chettinad style food here. I personally loved the food as it offers a wide spread ranging from Indian,Continental to Chinese. The Bunglow is an old British bunglow. The interiors do remind you of the pre-independance era. One can go trekking or could also have a cycle arranged by the resort. The night temperature drops down to 10 degrees even in summer. One can opt for fire wood to light the fire place in the rooms. They charge Rs 5000 per couple. It is inclusive of Breakfast,Lunch and Dinner. They also provide Beer on request. You will be charged for this extra drink and snacks. They have a dog called Mobby. He is friendly and a great entertainer. He is full of energy and is always wanting to play games with the visitors. He got emotional while we were leaving the place. Choose this resort and make a good choice.

Best Experience: The view from the room cannot be put in word in words.

Worst Experience: None

A holiday to cherish. The place is wonderful in terms of the breathtaking scenary. Just watching the mesmerizing view from the house is enough to destress anyone.

Best Experience: Wonderful hosts, excellent food, company of Moby the German Sheperd and the tough and exciting trek up the mountain. The dining area is also great with a fireplace and soothing music - Chris de Burgh, Simon & Garfunkel etc.

Worst Experience: Accessibility is a problem with potholed roads to traverse. Ideal for an SUV but cars can make it there, you just need to be careful and slow.
