About River Beas

voted as clean

The Himalayan Mountains give birth to some of the most pristine, mighty, and magnificent rivers that traverse the length and breadth of North India. River Beas, which originates at Vyas Kund in the Rohtang Pass in Kullu, is one of the most important rivers in the country and has become popular with tourists for the picturesque landscapes, beautiful towns, and green valleys located on its banks.

River Beas, famously known as the river where Alexander the Great was forced to end his conquest of the world has emerged as a spot for adventure seekers and lovers of nature alike. Beas passes through the Kullu-Mandi regions, with abundant flower-filled meadows, apple orchards and terraced fields of paddy and maize making the river route splendid with breath-taking landscapes. The famous tourist hill station of Manali, where numerous tourists throng to enjoy a break and bask in the lap of Mother Nature, is situated on the banks of this river.

Beas River is a heaven for adventure lovers and offers the options of white-water rafting and kayaking to thrill seekers, challenging the beginners and professional rafters alike. Other adventure activities include river crossing, mountain rappelling, trekking, camping and paragliding.

The sparkling, crystal-clear waters of Beas and the chilled, pure air of the Himalayas attract people from all over to enjoy the abundant fruits of nature.

It is one of the nature's beautiful creation and lifeline for inhabitants. The road journey to Manali by the side of the river Beas is adventurous and enjoyable. However, facilities like wash rooms on the road side is missing and creates problem for travellers.

"The Amazing Beas River !!!"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Apr 18, 2017
The river rises in the Pradesh in central Himachal Pradesh India, and flows for some 470 kilometres (290 mi) to the Sutlej River in the Indian state of Punjab. You can see the River as soon as you enter Manali. I was completely lost in the beauty of the River. The sound of the gushing water makes you want to stay at the bank of the river. River rafting is done here during season time, hence please carry extra pair of clothes if you are visiting here and want to experience the sport.

"The river of Manali"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Oct 2, 2016
River beas is the only river passes through the Manali town. The flow is very high, the sound of flow can be heard from 200 300 meters away from rivers. The river meets with several small waterfalls and smalls rivers and become very huge after passing mountains. The adventure activities are done on this river like zip line crossing and river rafting etc. You will find several tour operators and adventure station to have such experience there. Spending time near the beas bank clicking pics are really some good experience you will carry with yourself.

"The lifeline of Kullu valley"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Jun 30, 2016
Beas river is the lifeline of Kullu valley. On your travel to Manali, we are travelling through its banks only. The view of the river with green mountains on the background is a view which you will never get bored of. This river is actually originating from a pond in the Vyas Temple near Rohtang Pass. There are many points where one can go into the river and enjoy it's flow sitting on the rocks. But being in its early course, its current is strong and one should give maximum care. Some private agencies are conducting rafting too ..

"Amazing river rafting"

River rafting in Manali is done in the Beas River. The ideal 20 km stretch from Manaki to Jhiri near Bajaura en-route Manali from Bhuntar is one of the best stretches for rafting in India. However, there are short stretches in the Manali region for beginner's level rafting in the Beas River.

"A lovely place"

Literally I am in love with Beas. In between Mandi and Kullu we have to pass by a ghar road, side by Beas river. Nice view and adventurous route it is. Definitely will love if you travel through this. Beas river welcomes you like a well-known person. Water rafting in Beas gives more interaction with Beas. I felt like I met my childhood friend who was meeting after years. Loved it!

It was a great sporting experience with rafting in beas river, the drive was fully enjoying and thrilling. The water is so chill, please carry a spare cloth because after the rafting you will be totally wet and you need to change your dress, separate changing rooms are available.
