Shimoga is better than most smaller cities in Karnataka, and is still developing. A developed city can be identified by the choice of good staying options there. And thankfully Royal Orchid at Shimoga is a great choice The hotel lobby is large and also houses the semi open restaurant cum coffee shop Pinxx. That is open 24 hours by the way The reception welcome and interaction is very warm and the staff in entirety are very polite and helpful. The rooms are large enough and well designed. Comfortable beds and a good TV and mini bar. A little dimly lit though. Free WiFi is another great feature. Bathrooms are also quite good Not much views to boast of as it is in the heart of the city, which is not a bad thing in itself. Pretty close to the market area Shimoga also has a night food street which can be of interest to travellers The hotel also houses a specialty restaurant called Tiger Trails which serves mainly north Indian food. The mix bar is their drinkery and it has a modern decor and comfortable seating. Drink options were good and service was quick. The food also was surprisingly good, and I was mightily impressed Though my stay was rather short, it was a pleasant one and I can have no complaints about it Highly recommended to Shimoga travellers.
We had checked in to Royal Orchid Central, during transit. This is best recommended if any of you are on a visit towards Bhadravathi, Kadoor, or even Agumbe (which is where we went visiting) Breaking down the review based on the parameters. Location, with the hotel being centrally located, it was reaching there. There is ample space for parking (in case any of you would be driving down) Rooms and amenities: The rooms are well done, which should be no surprise, considering the class maintained at their other hotel in the historic Hampi area. The complimentary WiFi facility is a bonus, especially if you are accompanied by kids that insist on watching kids rhymes and play doh, Disney collector videos on you-tube:) The hard water does seem to have taken its toll on the chrome of the bathroom fittings, but that's more or less a similar case in areas that are rich with hard water :) Didn't check if the kids play area was available, as we were quite tired by the hard day's road-trip Food: Choice of cuisine is limited, but the taste is good. There is a reasonably good choice of complimentary breakfast too. Staff are courteous and polite. Room service is quick. All in all a good stay! Considering the limited choice of hotels nearby, worth dropping in for a comfortable stay in this hotel.
Usual stay during business trips to Shimoga. Great hotel in a be City. Centrally located with good rooms & furnishing. The kitchen is great, serving finger licking dishes- but a little on the expensive side. Unfortunately, the hotel does not have a pool or a gym. Housekeeping is very good. Courteous concierge & reception. Good place for stay if you are visiting Jogfalls, Mandagadde bird sanctuary or en route Sringeri- no other such hotels in 50 km radius.
The hotel was located near to the bus stand. I face any problem in reaching to the hotel. The ambience at the hotel was very clean. The interior and exterior appearance of the hotel was very well maintained. The hotel had provided a parking facility. The hotel needs to provide a pickup and drop service. The staff at the hotel were active and co-operative. There was no delayed in check in and checkout procedure. The room provided to me was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and hygienic. All the amenities in the room were worked well. The laundry service was provided by the hotel. The WiFi facility was provided by the hotel. The bed sheets, pillows and blankets were kept neat and cleaned. The food quality at the hotel was very good and the taste was delicious. The hotel was served both vegetarian and non vegetarian food. I had not observed any activities at the hotel. The stay at the hotel was very memorable. I would like to recommend this hotel for other travellers.
We had driven down from Bangalore. It was a bumpy and a dusty drive, all the way! No good hotels on the way to take a break. When we checked in, we were welcomed with Cologne towels and a nondescript fruit juice. The front office was quite efficient and we ushered into our rooms in a jiffy. The passage to the rooms were a bit eerie, probably due to the dim lighting. The room was a bit spacious with hot water available at 7pm (a luxury this side of the town! ). The rooms and bathrooms were also badly lit. I think they should do something to this input. We had ordered (room service) North Indian food, rather reluctantly, since we did not have much of South Indian cuisine to choose from. The food arriving piping hot within 30 minutes and was not spicy, much to our wishes! Since we had an early check-out at 5am, we had requested the front office for a wake up call with coffee. It was promptly done so by the staff. What surprised us most - sandwiches, muffins were neatly packed with ketchup! This was a nice gesture given the long journey to Sringeri. Overall, our stay has been enjoyable all the three times we had stayed at this hotel
