Rudraprayag, named after Rudra, a form of Lord Shiva is a pilgrim town situated on the junction of rivers Mandakini and Alakananda. Located at a distance of 34 km from Srinagar it remains crowded because of its proximity to the sacred shrines like Badrinath and Kedarnath.
Rudranath and Chamunda Devi Temples are other attractions of this town. According to a popular belief, Lord Shiva, in his reincarnation of Rudra, had emerged in front of Narad at this place. Another fable states that at this place Sati took rebirth after her tragic demise.
