"Clean, cozy, cool, calm stay at Sagar Darshan (Sasawane)"

5.1/7
Posted 26 Nov, 2013

I and my wife had been there for 1 day picnic on 23.11.13. This hotel is located on Sasawane beach-approx 106 kms from Thane. Pls dont confuse between another Sagar Darshan which is located on kihim beach (owned by Mr. Chavan). A review by Mr. Sudhir Barge helped me a lot before booking this hotel. Since it is located in northern part of Alibaug its quite calm and quiet (not like crowded nagaon, kashid, akshi). My overall exp was very good & I would like visiting here again with elderly members of family. The owner, Apte family (Mr. & Mrs Apte and their son, Chaitanya- 02141237097, 9372210123) takes very good care of their guests and offer prompt services. Hotel is bang on the sea shore and one can have sun set view right from hammock. However sea shore is rocky and shore area is dirty. I didnt feel like swimming in sea. They provide veg-non veg food & quality was excellent (we tasted pomphret, surmai & chicken). Everything was nicely prepared. No Room service available & evercie Since only 'families' are allowed, nuisance of drinkers' groups is out of question. They have total 6 rooms (2 on ground & 4 on first floor) and each room can accommodate max 3 pax. Rooms are very compact as three beds are fixed and cant be kept aside. But room arrangements are well thought of. 1st floor rooms have sea view from large windows and it freshens up you. Cleanliness is maintained everywhere (in rooms as well as in open space). There are two big shacks where 10 pax can have lunch together in each shack. Open space is surrounded by 15-20 coconut trees and nets have been fixed to prevent coconut falling on cars & people. Good part is- No tv sets available in rooms. Its there in a common dining hall. One can play badminton, cricket (for kids). Property is not young gen friendly but ideal for elderly members & family get togethers.

"A very good getaway"

The owners are really nice and the food is home-cooked (very nice). You can have a nice walk on the beach and relax watching the sunset. A very good getaway to just sit on the swing and breathe easy.

"Location is so wonderful"

Sagar Darshan Beach Resort is located right on the beach 6-7 kms. away from crowded Ganpatipule. Location is so wonderful you can see ocean sitting on your bed. There are very little development on either side of beach gives you private beach experience. Beach was very long and less rocky unlike Ganpatipule beach.Water Sports are 1-2 kms away and you can reach that place easily walking on the beach. There are 11 cottages most of which have ocean view. Staff was very Co-operative.

Sagar Darshan is a small colourfully decorated hotel destination located bang on the Sasawane Beach. It is about 15 kms north of Alibaug and 5 kms south of Mandwa port/jetty. From Mandwa jetty one can take an hours ferry ride to the Gateway Of India in Mumbai for Rs 85. The hotel opens out on to the beach. The Sasawane beach is partly rocky and partly sandy. It is not recommended for swimming due to the rocks. One can have a dip in knee deep sea waters on the sandy patches. There are enough sandy patches for a cool walk at sunrise or sunset. On a clear evening one can see the Mumbai lights from Sagar Darshan. The fleet of local boats anchored at the kolhi wada in the nearby Awas village are a pretty sight Sagar Darshan has a lot of open spaces covered with lush green coconut trees, There are lots of covered sit outs with plenty of swings and hammocks. Secured parking is available. There are 6 rooms with a total of 18 beds. Each room has 3 beds. 2 rooms without sea view are Rs 700 each and Rs 1100 with AC. 2 rooms with sea view are Rs 800 each. 2 joint rooms with sea view are Rs1400 together.Rooms with sea view are on the first floor. Rooms/attached toilets are neat and clean and have English kamods. Hot water is available for 24 hours. Badminton and cricket facilities are available. The property is owned and run by Mr. Vasant Apte, his charming wife Madavi and their son Chaitanya. There is no room service ant no hotel boys. All eats and meals are provided in the dinning area which has the only TV on the property. The Apte's live on the property itself. They are very hospitable and courteous and go out of their way to make you feel at home and comfortable. The meals are wholesome and do not cost the earth. Veg meals are in-house and non-veg is procured from outside. The fried surmai and fried pomphlate were bloody good. Veg meals are also tasty. Though not on the menu, Mr Apte went out of his way to produce garma garam ' kande bhajee ' when required. The famous " Karmarkar Shilpalaya " meuseum is a must visit spot and is right opposite the Sagar Darshan gate. Do visit the near by Kihim beach, the Mandwa jetty, the Kelebec (art of living out doors) shop, the ZJM ventures shop and the huge sweet smelling Kewda tree growing just outside the Sagar Darshan sea side gate on the beach. Dry fish can be purchased at Chondi fish market near Kihim beach or at the Alibaug fish market.
