Sahastradhara, located at a distance of around 14 km from the heart of the city, is a popular tourist attraction of Dehradun. Literally meaning 'Thousands fold Spring', Sahastradhara is a beautiful spring, having a depth of around 9 m.

Owing to the presence of sulphur in the water of this spring, it is believed to have medicinal value. Besides medicinal merits, the spring is also known for its beautiful views. The beauty of this spring is further enhanced by the surrounding caves and Baldi River.

The water of this spring has lime, which contributes towards the formation of projecting ridge that eventually takes the shape of a cave. Due to its medicinal properties and beautiful views that can be enjoyed at this place, Sahastradhara is popular among a large number of tourists.

Went there to see why is this place so famous amongst others. Saw kawar's all around the place. Which some how disturbed the ecology. As there's Shiv ji's Temple nearby, people were enjoying the small waterfall rather than treating the water as a holy water for the mighty God. Be there once if you have time else can be skipped.

"Good place to enjoy"

Good place to enjoy natural running water. It can be developed more by tourism department looking to the number of tourists. Private dhabas provide changing room and lockers on charge. We found it safe. They also provide food but hygiene is a problem. Purchase only packed food and drinks. They also supply cold beer in the water.

Awesome place. Away from the commercialization. Cold pure water and the best part is the tyres in water on which you can play around. But it lacks cleanliness.

"Terrible experience"

Visiting this place was a big mistake. But yes i was going there after 27 years. It was only during during childhood that I visited there with my family.

It took us half an hour to reach there from our hotel Four Points by Sheraton. But it is the most dirty and filthy place I have ever by chance visited or seen in my life.

Please don't waste your time at this spot.

"Healing power of Sulphur Spring"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Mar 24, 2016
Once upon a time this place was quiet country side. There was one building visited by Pt Jawaharlal Nehru frequently. Now things have changed tremendously. Too many shops and too much concrete construction. Still the main attraction of the place Sulphur Spring and Shiv temple in the cave is unchanged. Getting wet under thousands of droplets or bathing in the stream both are refreshing. Actually bathing under Sulphur Spring is good for curing skin problems. Some people carry this water home even to drink to get rid of stomach problems. There is ropeway also to climb up. Nothing special except eating joints. Loud music disturbs the peace of natural surroundings and is intolerable. Wish people learn to enjoy chorus of birds more!
