Sahastradhara, located at a distance of around 14 km from the heart of the city, is a popular tourist attraction of Dehradun. Literally meaning 'Thousands fold Spring', Sahastradhara is a beautiful spring, having a depth of around 9 m.

Owing to the presence of sulphur in the water of this spring, it is believed to have medicinal value. Besides medicinal merits, the spring is also known for its beautiful views. The beauty of this spring is further enhanced by the surrounding caves and Baldi River.

The water of this spring has lime, which contributes towards the formation of projecting ridge that eventually takes the shape of a cave. Due to its medicinal properties and beautiful views that can be enjoyed at this place, Sahastradhara is popular among a large number of tourists.

"Not charm as before" new review

  • 4.00/7
  • Posted 2 weeks ago
This year Independence Day, we planned an outing for two days for Paonta Sahib, Renukaji lake & Dehradun Sahastradhara. 16th August, in the morning we went to Sahastradhara when we reached at that point, I was totally confused to find out the actual viewpoint because there are a lot of changes at present. I visited this point once more before fifteen years ago. That time it considered a good place for tourists & its scenic view was excellent. Dripping of water along a wide area basis from the hilltop, was really a wonderful view. Now a days, people made this spot a business centre. There are so many shops built over pool & temple caused to constrict the view point. I think the natural beauty is spoiled totally, people should think about this.

"Good for kids" new review

  • 7.00/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
I was very excited and its approx. 12 Km from main city and this place has nothing so great except the rope way ride you get and that too it is just for few mins. There is a man made water park, good enjoyment for kids only, I did not find it attractive. And many things need improvement like, cleanliness and safety, carry clothes if you plan on dipping in water.

"Pleasant and peaceful destination" new review

  • 7.00/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
The place was really very nice and a blend of natural beauty to be enjoyed. The mountainous cover make the place the best to visit. The temple of Lord Shiva is great to be visited. The water at Sahastradhara is called as a medicated water as it treats various ailments of the humans. The overall experience was excellent and I highly recommend others to visit this place.

"Expectations not met"

  • 4.00/7
  • Posted 1 month ago
The water was dirty and so much rubbish was floating around that we didn't even want to take a dip. Forget dip, my mom refused to even touch the water. There were changing rooms, rather changing kiosks, and clothes for rent to bathe in. There was food available on the banks as well as knickknacks. There was a temple and many other attractions including a discotheque up on the hilltop, a cable car ride away. Which we didn't visit for shortage of time.

"Nature's infinity pool"

  • 5.00/7
  • Posted 1 month ago
Well if you always wanted to swim in an infinity swimming pool and couldn't just because you are not a millionaire, Sahastradhara is an free answer of nature, Sahastradhara located around 18 km from Dehradun railway station is a perfect place to forget all your troubles and dip in cold but soothing water of Ganga river, which is also believed good for your skin problems(might not be true in some cases) and mind. There are around 100 of these small waterfalls which are beautiful in sight. You can also enjoy cheap ropeway trolleys which lead you to the top of the hill to enjoy a very good view.

Nothing great about the place which is highly overrated, though it attracts lot of tourists. Since we went during winters it was far less crowded though in summers it does attract lot of crowd.
