This is one of the oldest zoo of India since 1863. The zoo is spread over about 200 hectares of sylvan landscape at footprints of Girnar. There are more than 850 wild animals of 70 species. This is one of 15 biggest zoos of India. A well maintained zoo by Forest environment Department of Gujarat Government. A nice visit.

"Nice zoo with variety of animals"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted Mar 24, 2016
There are various species of animals here. However main attraction is White Tiger and Lions. There are literally thousands of birds varying from African origin to Asian. There is a bus safari which takes you to show Bears and Deers. It takes around 45 minutes. Bus safari is not worth as the Bears are hardly visible and Deers are not that point of attraction. If you have children with you, this place can be great from educational point of view.

"Good sightseeing place"

  • 4.5/7

The zoo provides pure bred Asiatic lions for the Indian and the international endangered species captive breeding program for the critically endangered species. Wild free ranging Asiatic lions have become extinct over most of Asia and are today found only in the nearby Gir Forest.

"Good Zoo for fun and to educate infants"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted Mar 17, 2015
I have visited Sakarbaug Zoo in November last year. It was a pleasant experience because on that day our kids have enjoyed a lot by seeing different animals and birds. Also we can go for a safari and can see the wild life with our family through a electric bus provided at the facility with a nominal charge. Zoo is not that clean but it worth a visit.

"Good zoo covering wide range of animals"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Mar 31, 2014
Excellent zoo covering a large range of animals and you can see them all at a very cheap rate. Refreshment facilities are also available inside the zoo. I am not sure about the timings, but confirm with any local person before you visit as for me, I found the ticket window closed while exit at 12:30 pm.
