Salihundam is a village located on the southern shores of Vamsadhara, around 22 km away from Srikakulam town. The major attractions of this village are the Buddhist stupas and a monastic complex situated on a hill. These attractions are believed to be established in 1919 by Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy.
Relic caskets, a Chaityagriha, four stupas and structural temples were found during the excavations done by the state authorities. These ruins date back to the period between the 2nd century and 12th century, reflecting various phases of Buddhism, namely Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana. The statues of Mareechi and Tara were also discovered from this historic place.
