Sangam Hotel, Madurai
Alagarkoil Road, Ramaond Reserve Line, Madurai, Tamil Nadu 625002
My stay was in Rohini International Hotel. The location of the hotel was good. The internal and external appearance of the hotel was good. There was no delay in check in and checkout. The staff members in the hotel were helpful and quick in services. The room allotted to me was good and it was well maintained with all required amenities in working condition. I ate food in the hotel and it was good in quality and taste. There were no activities in the hotel.
We picked Sangam for a brief stay over end route to Chennai from Nagercoil. From the pictures of the hotel online, we knew we had selected a decent enough hotel, but when we saw our room, we were absolutely amazed. Designed with abundance of wood panelling, the room was beautifully furnished. Luxurious beds, with concealed lighting, and plush curtains, the wardrobe and mini fridge and compact sofa and table were all so pleasing, so admirable. Best was the shower. A bath area that was effectively compartmentalized from the toilet and sink area so that not a drop of water leaked. And again the mirrors, the hand flush, the racks for towels (so nicely rolled up) made it a great experience. And once you were ready, reluctantly, to leave the room, a huge mirror fixed to the back of the door assured you were indeed ready or not. The food in the restaurant along with their service was impeccable, but I wouldn't call it extraordinarily so. What was extraordinary was the bar. Half a dozen nibbles and munchies on the house as you nursed your drink. No surprise that on both days we headed to the bar as soon as the sun set. Experiencing Sangam was something. And one of us was visiting from the US.
I usually prefer to stay in Sangam as there aren't many hotels in Madurai who would offer good service within the budget. As a frequent booker, I get to enjoy many discounts which other hotels have not provided to me. Also the staff attrition at Sangam is very less compared to other hotels, so they know you and your preference of menus. It’s like walking into a much familiar place and I do not get a feel that I am a traveler. The rooms are good, the bed is cozy and the installed Air Cons are good in quality. There is a mini bar which is a good excuse for sipping in beers when on the room. There is also a regular bar but I don't suggest them as they are overcrowded with the local people. The swimming pool is good; just that there is no shade around the pool. Not good when you want to lean down and enjoy a book. The buffet is rich and will have 15 dishes to choose from. Food quality is moderate and I don't remember eating anything which is of the "WoW" quality. The housekeeping staff are polite to visitors, extremely polite to white skins. Try to avoid booking rooms in the ground floor as there sometimes would be too much noise created by the other guests or by the AMC guys who normally work in ground floor. The TVs in the room’s feature many Tamil channels so if you are a guy who wants to look for other genres, avail the Wi-Fi connection in the room.
