helpful staff and good surroundings

6.1/7
Posted 28 May, 2014

Room was sea facing. Food was delicious with veg and non veg varieties. It was located at 2 min walking distance from the beach. Room was well decorated and furnished, but it was little congested. All basic amenities were present in the room like AC, LCD, geyser, double bed, and neat and clean toile. Location wise hotel was excellent. Look wise it was wonderful. Reception people were well spoken and helpful. Services were up to the mark. Swimming pool, garden area and other extra activities were present in the hotel. Digha as a tourist destination is relaxed place. It is beautiful place for outing. Complimentary breakfast was not served there.

Overall Experience at Digha

3.6/7
Posted 9 Dec, 2015

The Sea Hawk Hotel, Digha (West Bengal) campus looks quite presentable from outside. It is a sprawling complex with about three or four buildings of different sizes & a garden. It is the best located property in the whole of Digha, & it being one of the oldest & best known hotels in Digha, I expected a reasonably pleasant stay recently in December 2015 However, even the man showing me to my room took me in three different directions before he could locate my allotted room (after enquiries from four different employees). The room was not at all well maintained & had cracks on the walls. There were marks of blood on the walls where mosquitoes had been squashed all over, besides having stains of different sorts all over the walls. The bed sheets were washed but very old & discolored. The small side table with the intercom on it was dusty as if not cleaned in more than a month. The bed mattress was hard & had ants running all over. The two glass tumblers on the table seemed as if not washed for months, & the jug had no water in it. The bathroom was dirty & slippery not having been swept / brushed at all & the lesser used areas had water marks/ stains. The walls were greasy. Both the wash basin & potty were stained / not cleaned. Additionally, the potty seat had water marks & stains all over, indicating years / months of use with no cleaning / brushing. The bathroom light was non functional, & even the jugaaroo / makeshift light plugged in with some wire & with another bulb was not working All in all, it was a horrible room; not a room one would like to spend time in, or touch anything in. In any case, since I had already checked in, I had little option but to stay at least for that day After all this disappointment, the employee who showed me in was also refusing to leave, making all the necessary gestures / suggestions for a tip which I firmly refused to fall for I soon enough went out of the hotel, looking for an alternative hotel room. I found a hotel which looked presentable enough from outside. A group of the employees were all sitting & gossiping at the lobby / hall while I waited at the counter. The man at the counter who came from inside in a few minutes, told me that both AC & Non AC rooms were available, but he also refused to show me any room immediately nor would he permit any advance payment for the next day, saying that spot bookings did not permit it. But he also assured that he would definitely a lot me one the next morning when I came for check in I then went on to another hotel near the main road (Rajabari) which apparently had rooms available which were shown to me. But once the man at the counter learned that I was alone, he said that the local authorities (including the police) had advised all hotels not to let out rooms to any single person At the next hotel I visited, once the counter man knew I was alone, I got the same response about having been advised not to let out rooms to single persons. He said that all the hotels in the area would confirm this fact. At this, I could not help but react & tell them that I had travelled all over the country & abroad, but never had to confront such a directive from the Police; which in any case seemed to be a ridiculous & unreasonable direction since I was in a position to identify myself & my address with valid documents Being a harmless looking recently retired government employee, I was just wanting to travel & relax for a few days, and could not even begin to comprehend what risk / danger I could constitute to morality or peace or law & order in the hotel or in the town which was already teeming with holidaymakers I had recently returned from another seaside resort in Thailand, & just having experienced the hospitality / attitude of the smiling & amazing Thais; I was appalled by the indifferent, myopic attitude of the hotels & (if correThe nearest was the (state government roundly informed by the Hotels) the astounding advice evidencing total absence of any logic or vision apparently given by the DSDA / Police authority at Digha. An immediate comparison is difficult to avoid. At least at the Sea Hawk Hotel, Digha I did not get this response about single persons which may have been explained by the prior booking made by me from its Kolkata office After these experiences, I lost all appetite for staying the second day at Digha, & returned to Kolkata promptly the next day; but not before having to face demands for tips at every turn from different employees at the hotel who had given me no service whatsoever; besides one merely handing me the final bill, and another man who merely accepted the room key on departure. My total experience at Digha is symbolic of everything that is wrong with Bengal Tourism & the cause of its failure to take off, very unlike the position in Kerala / Goa.

Best place to stay

5.4/7
Posted 20 Jul, 2016

I have visited Digha and number of times since 1980 and tried many hotels in Old and New Digha areas. I found out Sea Hawk is the best place to stay. Situated in Barrister Colony, Old Digha, this hotel is only a 5/6 minutes ride from railway station by car or motorized van-rickshaw and a 5 minutes walk from the bus stand. Once you enter the premises, you only hear the sound of breaking waves and chirps of the birds. The hotel is quite big. Two storied buildings, two cottages and a beautiful small two storied house in the corner of the garden. Most important is they have a beach which is not connected to the main beach of Digha where bathing becomes a headache because of huge crowd during weekends and holidays. There are many rooms to suit every pocket. They have a quite big multi-cuisine restaurant and bar with a reasonable price list. There are a few good eateries in front of the hotel and if one walks 2/3 minutes towards main market plenty of restaurants will be found. The rooms are very spacious and toilets are also big and clean. Almost all the rooms are sea facing and many rooms have balconies. The cottages are AC and have 2 rooms each where a family of 4-6 persons can easily be accommodated. All the 1st floor and 2nd floor sea facing rooms with balconies of new building are good, but select AC rooms during summer. Most of the AC rooms in main building don't have balconies. Since there is no elevator I suggest ground floor sea facing rooms in main building for elderly people or for those who have problem mounting stairs. These rooms are non-ac but very cool and comfortable, even during summer. Though the maintenance is not up to the mark and room service slack it's a place to enjoy with family and friends. There is a great demand for this hotel throughout the year, so book in advance. One has to pay full amount in advance by cash/DD to their city office. Caution - never go near the sea during high tide (from evening till late morning. See photos). Even avoid the sitting area on the slope of main beach in the evening.

Memorable stay at Sea Hawk Hotel

5.3/7
Posted 4 Jan, 2016

Last week we made our Digha tour. It was really memorable to us. After reaching Digha railway station we stayed at our pre booked, a hotel with outstanding view and absolutely between the nature named Sea Hawk. The hotel had make a great effect on our tour. It was a awesome view of sea from the room we given. There was many beautiful trees of flowers, beautiful cactus and around the perimeters of the entire hotel. There was a nice arrangements to sit and enjoy the nature with a beautiful swimming pool with a decent view of sea shore. It was a very old hotel in the heart of Digha. The building of the hotel had a great interior and exterior design. We have given a wonderful room with a beautiful double bed bedroom, western style WC, with a beautiful balcony of having a great view of sea. There was also a TV with good sound system. The services of the hotel was very good as they offer a room with choices of traveller. Food quality was awesome with a lunch full of various kinds of fishes. We spent 2 nights and 3 days there with great enjoyment.

Surroundings of the hotel were neat clean and well maintained and interiors were quite attractive and well maintained also in good condition. The staff were very friendly and mannered and quick to respond. Rooms were spacious, neat and clean and AC, TV, geyser everything were functioning properly. There was beach view from the room and the food was excellent in taste, delicious and quality also good. Hotel was conveniently located. View of beach was visible from the room. Booking was done from Calcutta. There was no problem in booking and no delay in check-in or check-out. It was a good hotel. I travelled there by my own car so there was no problem to reach there. Hotel's location was very good. Very nice sea view was visible from the room. Many times we took suite there. Room service was good. Staff behaviour and their services were nice in that hotel. They were very helpful with us. Interior and exterior of the hotel was good. Very good hotel near sea beach

6.6/7
Posted 23 Oct, 2013

Howrah, everybody knows about it, if anyone wants to spoil your Cerebrum, then its the best place. It was in the month of July 2013, I along with my family hired a taxi from Howrah station to Digha. The Taxi drivers are also same as Howrah. As we came out from Kolkata the roads started to look much wider, silkier and brighter. After almost Three hours we reached Old Digha. As I had already searched in internet, I asked my driver to take us to Sea Hawk Hotel. There were many hotels on the road side, but as I had decided to try in Sea Hawk, so I moved on. I was just having in my mind the pictures of Sea Hawk that I found in the Net. I was too curious to have the real view of Sea Hawk as it was my dream. Alas, it came true along with a bonus of ecstacy. As I entered the hotel, I thought it was a so-so hotel like others, but believe me after confirming the VIP room on the first floor with the Manager, I was STUNNED to watch my dream come true. It was a much better beauty as compared to the photos shown in internet. With a big open green ground inside, where I saw some kids playing, couples sitting on the hanging chairs, Children swinging, etc. My kid just went crazy. I saw a small gate at the other end of the main gate where on the wall some rules and regulations were mentioned. And outside the small gate, a small road and after that the mighty bay of Bengal sea which was almost 30 to 40 feet away from the gate. Just leave my kid, I'm about 37 years of age and at that moment, I was not in this world. I moved back to my school days when I used to jump and play like monkeys. Our three bed room was on the first floor, and as we entered the room, the hotel service started, they brought us water, menu, and gave us all kinds of phone assistance numbers. Along with the welcome tea, sea hawk soap, white towel etc. We also had a landline phone and a colour tv in our room, but no AC, as we had asked for a non-ac room. There is a small veranda outside my room and as I moved out, such a cold breeze touched my whole body that I closed my eyes and for a moment or two I forgot all my family and business tensions. The room was spacious and clean along with a attached western style bathroom. Dear friend, please don't think, all this is fake. The Sea Hawk is Real and my views are just true from the bottom of my heart. I really enjoyed the 3 days stay in that Hotel. But truly speaking I did not like New Digha. Quite a big rush of people. The environment near Sea Hawk was just cool and calm. There were small tea stalls and decorated chairs for tourist, outside the hotel. Regarding the meal, it was tasty along with a liitle bit costly. It was a overall Heavenly Experience in Sea Hawk Hotel of old Digha. The one and only dream come true Hotel for all the men, women and kids of India. If I get a chance I would certainly visit again. Its my next dream. Believe me friends, making a trip to Digha and planning to stay in the Sea Hawk, would just be the best and wise decision of your life. I MEAN IT. Sea Hawk Hotel is the entrance of joy into your life and your family's too.

Very nice place with good environment and nice surroundings. Staff was perfect there. It is nearby to the beach and beach was visible from the room. Hotel has its own restaurant. Food was best. Mainly all types of varieties were available in veg and non veg categories. Rooms were nice there. They were furnished with all amenities like AC, TV, etc. Whatever we ordered, we got that immediately. Service was best. Hotel location was nice. Look wise hotel was well maintained and well managed. Booking, front office, and reception service was perfect. Children will have fun time as park and jhoola were available. Can be recommended without doubt. I went there with my family.

Hotel is very good. Service is very good. Staff were quick in attending to requests. Rooms were very good. Bed was very good. There was intercom in room. Bathroom had hot water facility. Since we are Jain, we did not had food at the hotel. We had made our own provisions. We were not much interested about activities in the hotel. They provide parking facility. Hotel is in a good location and it looked good. This hotel can be recommended and Digha is a good destination.

We had a gr8 n memorable experience during our 2 nights n 3 days stay in hotel Sea Hawk. It has probably the best location in the entire Digha. All most every room is sea facing. We stayed in the V.I.P. building in the topmost floor having a balcony which gave us a view of the beautiful garden in front as well as the Sea.The room charge was Rs.1200 per night with Rs.150 for an extra person. It was a wonderful experience.Room service is very good. They would provide you with whatever you need in the room. Food was tasty but charges for dishes like pomphret, hilsha, prawn, bhekti is higher than any road side restaurants. The garden of the hotel is well maintained. There is a nice beach in front of the hotel. Overall it was a nice experience staying in sea hawk.

Whenever I visited Digha I stayed at Sea Hawk, I think it is the best you can expect in Old Digha. Good value for money. Nearest to the old Digha beach. Sea facing rooms are great.
