Last week we made our Digha tour. It was really memorable to us. After reaching digha railway station we stayed at our pre booked, a hotel with outstanding view and absolutely between the nature named Sea Hawk. The hotel had make a great effect on our tour. It was a awesome view of sea from the room we given. There was many beautiful trees of flowers, beautiful cactus and around the perimeters of the entire hotel. There was a nice arrangements to sit and enjoy the nature with a beautiful swimming pool with a decent view of sea shore. It was a very old hotel in the heart of Digha. The building of the hotel had a great interior and exterior design. We have given a wonderful room with a beautiful double bed bedroom, western style WC, with a beautiful balcony of having a great view of sea. There was also a TV with good sound system. The services of the hotel was very good as they offer a room with choices of traveller. Food quality was awesome with a lunch full of various kinds of fishes. We spent 2 nights and 3 days there with great enjoyment.

Very good hotel in Digha. Awesome sight. Near from coast. Love that hotel. Cost is quite higher. Like it. Will stay here again if I visit Digha. Fooding and lodging both are good. If you come to Digha then try this hotel.

Location of hotel is fine, food is little bit costly but very tasty. Staff are very nice and helpful. Regarding advance booking, it is very difficult through Kolkata. As the person is doing the reservation is very rigid. Nice place to stay more than 10 days subject to pocket allowed.

The Sea Hawk Hotel, Digha (West Bengal) campus looks quite presentable from outside. It is a sprawling complex with about three or four buildings of different sizes & a garden. It is the best located property in the whole of Digha, & it being one of the oldest & best known hotels in Digha, I expected a reasonably pleasant stay recently in December 2015.

However, even the man showing me to my room took me in three different directions before he could locate my allotted room (after enquiries from four different employees). The room was not at all well maintained & had cracks on the walls. There were marks of blood on the walls where mosquitoes had been squashed all over, besides having stains of different sorts all over the walls. The bed sheets were washed but very old & discolored. The small side table with the intercom on it was dusty as if not cleaned in more than a month. The bed mattress was hard & had ants running all over. The two glass tumblers on the table seemed as if not washed for months, & the jug had no water in it. The bathroom was dirty & slippery not having been swept / brushed at all & the lesser used areas had water marks/ stains. The walls were greasy. Both the wash basin & potty were stained / not cleaned. Additionally, the potty seat had water marks & stains all over, indicating years / months of use with no cleaning / brushing. The bathroom light was non functional, & even the jugaaroo / makeshift light plugged in with some wire & with another bulb was not working.

All in all, it was a horrible room; not a room one would like to spend time in, or touch anything in. In any case, since I had already checked in, I had little option but to stay at least for that day.

After all this disappointment, the employee who showed me in was also refusing to leave, making all the necessary gestures / suggestions for a tip which I firmly refused to fall for.

I soon enough went out of the hotel, looking for an alternative hotel room. I found a hotel which looked presentable enough from outside. A group of the employees were all sitting & gossiping at the lobby / hall while I waited at the counter. The man at the counter who came from inside in a few minutes, told me that both AC & Non AC rooms were available, but he also refused to show me any room immediately nor would he permit any advance payment for the next day, saying that spot bookings did not permit it. But he also assured that he would definitely allot me one the next morning when I came for check in.

I then went on to another hotel near the main road (Rajabari) which apparently had rooms available which were shown to me. But once the man at the counter learned that I was alone, he said that the local authorities (including the police) had advised all hotels not to let out rooms to any single person.

At the next hotel I visited, once the counter man knew I was alone, I got the same response about having been advised not to let out rooms to single persons. He said that all the hotels in the area would confirm this fact. At this, I could not help but react & tell them that I had travelled all over the country & abroad, but never had to confront such a directive from the Police; which in any case seemed to be a ridiculous & unreasonable direction since I was in a position to identify myself & my address with valid documents.

Being a harmless looking recently retired government employee, I was just wanting to travel & relax for a few days, and could not even begin to comprehend what risk / danger I could constitute to morality or peace or law & order in the hotel or in the town which was already teeming with holidaymakers.

I had recently returned from another seaside resort in Thailand, & just having experienced the hospitality / attitude of the smiling & amazing Thais; I was appalled by the indifferent, myopic attitude of the hotels & (if correThe nearest was the (state government run)ctly informed by the Hotels) the astounding advice evidencing total absence of any logic or vision apparently given by the DSDA / Police authority at Digha. An immediate comparison is difficult to avoid. At least at the Sea Hawk Hotel, Digha I did not get this response about single persons which may have been explained by the prior booking made by me from its Kolkata office..

After these experiences, I lost all appetite for staying the second day at Digha, & returned to Kolkata promptly the next day; but not before having to face demands for tips at every turn from different employees at the hotel who had given me no service whatsoever; besides one merely handing me the final bill, and another man who merely accepted the room key on departure. My total experience at Digha is symbolic of everything that is wrong with Bengal Tourism & the cause of its failure to take off, very unlike the position in Kerala / Goa.

The hotel is located just near the sea in old Digha. You can easily opt for sea viewing rooms to have a great look at the ever beautiful sea. You can take a light bath near beaches of the hotel and you can hear roar of sea from hotel itself. The rooms are good, little costly as it is very near to beach. Room comes up around 1200 Non AC. Market is just beside the hotel. Hence you can visit the market any time, have food, essential items. You can walk thorough the road beside sea and enjoy the beauty.

I stayed here for two days, in those two days I have experienced very good service from this hotel. Sea beach is not so far from hotel so one can enjoy the sunset easily. Rooms are good including AC, TV and beddings. Toilets and bath rooms are very clean and I am satisfied with that. Authorities are eager to help always. They will give you a classy experience.

Pleasant experience with sea facing room. Garden was beautiful and big, it was attracting for children to play and people to sit in the morning and night. Food and room service was also good, rooms were good, big, spacious, cosy, neat and clean. Overall great experience with all amenities.
