Shimla food, sight-seeing and shopping options
NOTHING FOR SHOPPAHOLICS. Giani's Dhaba is famous but I did not even want to stop by. Minchy's factory outlet for rare pickles, squashes and Wine (Pick from plum, peach, apricot, apple, grape, rhododendron etc.). Strange enough I had the best gol-gappas here. Road sice stall run by a tennaged bot who when told has great gol-gappas hardly was happy. Like I said people are too simple to express a change in emotions.

Hotel Review of Quality Inn Himdev
Comments: In one word the 'resort' disappointed us.
The glossy brochure and the glib marketing spiel available at their site promised a lot of things but in reality we ended up having witnessed or experienced nothing! The ridiculously high room tariffs (you get far better hotels on the Mall itself at the same price range) , pigeon-hole rooms, stuffy atmosphere and bad food combined to ensure that we had one of the worst holidays till date!
Worst Experience: Location: The so-called resort is located about 6 kms away from Shimla proper, on the Shimla-Kalka road ( maybe the location was chosen so that when you get bored you can count the no. of trucks using the road and fall asleep listening to the sound of their engines). Commuting between hotel and Mall Road is a big headache and depending upon your negotiating skills, taxis will charge you anything between Rs. 80 to Rs. 200 to drop you at the lift.
2. Rooms: Dingy and claustrophobic, with no view worth mentioning. Most rooms have windows opening onto a covered courtyard, so if you are looking for fresh air and sunlight, do consider booking elsewhere.
3. Food: Universally tasteless and unimaginative! Much better to go and explore the restaurants situated in the Mall Road. But the only problem is the commuting, because taxis/buses are not available easily after 7.30 PM. So perforce you have to order dinner from the in-house restaurant and have to be satisfied with the concoction they serve you.
4. Service: The staff seems to be new to the business. Basic functions like room cleaning, change of linen etc. had to be explained to them and as far as I know, this is not a sign of a well known hotel, let alone a resort!
All in all, I would suggest to consider other accomodation if you are not planning to remain cooped up in dark, stale rooms having substandard food at inflated prices while in Shimla!
