The ShivappanaikaPalaceMuseum
is located in the very hub of ShimogaCity, on the banks of TungaRiver. The
palace was built by Keladi ruler, Shivappa Nayaka during the 16th century.
The palace is a product of architectural magnificence and is built entirely of
rosewood. This palace is currently a museum maintained by the State Department
of Archaeology. A rest house is available for the tourist.
The
palace, now equipped with a museum housing several interesting and rare
archaeological collections of stone carvings and antiques of Keladi period,
also has on display a store ofrecovered
idols of the Hoysala and Chalukya period from the early 16th century to late
18th century.
