Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum, known also as Satara Museum, is one of the major attractions of Satara city. Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum was established in 1970, to reveal the rich and varied culture of the Maratha Empire. The Museum has two main sections – Exhibition Articles and Maratha Art gallery. The Section of Exhibition Articles consists of four sub-sections for weapons, inscriptions, paintings and textiles.
The main exhibits at the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum include the royal armory, 15th century glass paintings and miniatures, paintings from the Maratha school, portraits of Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj, royal Maratha costumes, royal umbrella of Chhatrapati Pratapsingh Maharaj, embroidered sarees with Zari, Kashida and brocade work, etc.
Timing: 10 am – 1 pm (Closed on Mondays)
