It is believed that Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion stayed for some time in the 16th century, near Gargara Ghat at Shyambazar. It was in this place that a gurudwara was built in the name of Guru Nanak Charankamal.
Presently, the gurudwara near the municipality on the G.T. Road was built by Lieutenant Colonel Baba Harikishan Singh, a civil surgeon, in memory of his parents.
