Sri Ananta Temple of Ponda Taluka is located at Savoi-Verem Village. The temple of Sri Ananta was built in 1540. The village of Savoi-Verem had been considered as the main place for spiritual and secular knowledge. The temple enshrines the idol of Ananta that is made of black stone. The distinct structure of this temple is a two storey high lamp tower. During festivals, the tower is decorated with oil lamps. Nearby the temple, there is a holy water tank which is used for rituals.
Ananta is the serpent on which Vishnu rests; and is said to be the holder of the entire universe’s weight. As per the norm of the temple, the idol is made to sit on the chariot and is given a ride (yatra) around the temple and the village, during the annual yatra of the deity.
