It was a pleasant surprise. Not in the least because I had never even heard of Karwar (it's in Karnataka, by the way) before, let alone visit the place. Going there during the summer vacation was the right decision we took. The place is idyllic, close to nature & largely unexplored. Pollution is non-existent. The hotel staff was very courteous & helpful, though, as is sometimes seen at such places, a bit slow for our liking.
We were two families with 9 year old kids visiting Karwar for the first time and were looking for a stay for four days. It being April, we were particular about wanting A/C rooms and as we were late in booking, this was the only good hotel available, basis the reviews. The hotel was deemed to be close to the beach, but actually it is around 4 km from the Tagore Beach. It overlooks the Sangam - where River Kali flows into the Arabian Sea. As we arrived, we were greeted by the front desk and our formalities were completed very smoothly. The team explained the various sections of the hotel before we checked in to our room. The rooms that we got had a balcony facing the River Kali. The rooms were very clean, though they were medium sized. We had opted for an extra bed in each room and that cramped the space a bit. The rooms are equipped with TV and coffee maker. The washrooms are fairly clean. There is an ample supply of basic toiletries. The restaurant is alright. They mainly cater to a lot of Russian residents and hence the breakfast spread is more to their taste. However, for us, they offered us good Indian options - like Dosa, Idli, Aloo Parantha and Puris - not as a buffet spread but on order. This was a part of their breakfast package and we did not have to pay extra for the same. The food is alright and the servings are huge. The children loved the Aloo Parantha on their menu for breakfast. For most meals, we ended up exploring Karwar town itself and amongst the few we had, we tried their Chinese menu and Indian Menu. The Chinese dishes were a complete disappointment but the Indian Menu was good. My advice to most here would be to stick to their Indian menu. Would recommend their Bhindi and the Goan Veg curry. There is an entertainment center which is equipped with indoor games like Table tennis, carom, pool table and a few other indoor games. The children loved this area as this is right opposite the restaurant and while we waited for the meals, they would hop across to play. The staff here was very friendly and helped occupy the kids with activities like drawing and painting. The pool in the hotel is very clean and well maintained. We spend one lazy evening here in the pool. There are water polo nets that are available for a quick friendly game. However, the pool lights are a little dim and hence, beyond 7pm, the pool is not very enjoyable. Next to the pool is an open court for Throwball or Volleyball or even Badminton. The equipment for the same is available with the staff. There is also, a small field for football and for a rain dance. The Spa facilities for the ladies is available from morning 9am to 6 pm while for the men, it extends a little beyond 6pm. Though I did not get down to using the same, my hubby and cousin did. The experience was decent and the prices for the services are very reasonable. For a full body massage, it is around 1200 plus taxes. The gym is very basic but fairly decent. Has a few basic weights, treadmill and rowing machine. There is a holiday expert available at the resort who can make arrangements for various trips and activities like boating, Snorkeling, Banana boat ride etc. However, we found the pricing really high compared to what is available in the town. Hence, we did not opt for the same. A special mention to Mr. Bheem Singh, who greeted us on our first day at the restaurant. He goes out of his way to ensure that the children are comfortable and ensures that the food and service is available on time and is done to our taste. He realised that the children loved Aloo Parantha for breakfast everyday and on day Two, made sure that the same was kept ready for the kids. Thank you for the same. The rest of the staff, at the front desk, spa and other facilities is very courteous and helpful. They are quite quick with their response and they are the ones who make sure your stay is good. Overall, this is a good resort if you do not have any other options. The people and the service make it a good one. However, if you do have options closer to the beach, would definitely take those up.
From the outside it looks beautiful, and as you enter the lobby, wow, its fabulous, the reception counter is good along with its staff. After the check in our luggage was taken up by the staff, we had our rooms in third floor, we had booked 4 rooms, my friends who went first took on the beach side rooms, where as myself was left with the road view room. I requested the manager to change it, and for my luck I had one room with a special view, the beach view and the hill view, fantastic view. I took a tour of the resort, first with the swimming pool, yes its clean and well kept. Then to the bar, since I do not drink just had a glance and moved on, The first floor has the restaurant and the play area, The food served was hot and in good taste, my friend says the non veg and fish were also tasty. The play area is clean and well kept, had a game of table tennis. The room service was superb, the orders were served as ordered and in quite correct time also. The conducted tours of the resort are well planned but could not take the tour because had plans to drive to Goa, Overall a good, clean, and far from the crowd resort, only thing missing was the Beach.
It was excellent stay at resort, Location of resort is amazing where river meets the sea and on another side there is mountain and this superb view is from balcony of rooms, Rooms is very good, clean and well maintained, in room service is very good, food is also very good, Swimming pool is good and check in and check out is very smooth, Cab arrangement from Goa and from Karwar to Goa airport is done by Ms. Parveen its excellent, and time cab is good and at very reasonable rate whole staff is very polite and cooperative especially Parveen, Mr. Nandi and Ms willma is excellent.
