I along with my wife and daughter visited FERN HILL, STERLING HOLIDAY RESORT at Ooty in Oct. 2014 for five nights. It was Leisure Holiday.

Pickup and Drop was arranged by Resort. It was nice journey from Coimbatore Airport to Resort. As we approached Ooty the weather was very cool. On reaching Ooty it started Drizzling.

At the Reception we had very warm welcome. Our Deluxe Room was upgraded to Suite with no extra cost. Resort people provided us big umbrellas to Rome around the Resort; since it was raining almost every afternoon.

The decor in the room was good, beds were soft, over all the Suite was well-furnished, clean and well-maintained. Suite was very comfortable. Room service as well as Housekeeping was very good. Staff was very polite, well-mannered and cooperative.

Resort has lot of activities every day. They arrange Sightseeing taxis on request at short notice.

The resort had lavish Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner at reasonable price. The taste was very good; we will give 100% Mark for it.

My advice to travellers is to book the resort and Relax. Resort staff will take care of everything, You just have to give details of your plan.

It was my second Visit to Fern Hill, Sterling Holiday Resort, Ooty.

Ooty is beautiful place. The town is not properly maintained by the municipality and in lot of places you can see dirt. Hotel location is good. It is medium size resort with one complex and other individual 1 bhk type houses. I liked the overall ambience of hotel. There was a bad smell outside of the hotel when we moved in, but in the main complex there was no smell. When we asked about this to the manager he said there was a fertilizer treatment planned for the garden. We felt strange that if the hotel cared about their guests the could postpone it as it was the peak season. Service from maintenance and laundry was very bad. We had to complain at least 5 times at the reception for heater, for extra bed. The room heater mounted on the wall was not working and finally they provided other heaters after 2 hrs of request. Food is good particularly breakfast comprises of all the different items and you can eat what you like. Pool is ok. Be careful when the managers say we have upgraded your room from deluxe to suite or something like that. We felt there are rooms which are difficult to sell in which they push you, so that other rooms can be sold easily.

We stayed in premier suit and I was let down completely. The resort needs lot of mantainenece to be done. It can be lot more cleaner and better. The bathrooms get clogged. The play area was dirty. The common bathroom in the play area was stinking. I agree it's a old property but can be maintained better.

It was very good overall. The view from the hotel was very nice. The food was average. The front office was helpful. They had good activities during Christmas time. It was a premier suite. The view from the balcony of the room was excellent in the morning.

Hotel location was little off the town, so good for peaceful stay. Everything was pretty good other than the problem with Hot water we had. The staff there doesn't seem to have a clue about what the problem and kept on asking us to wait more. The room that we booked (premier suite) was very good and food was above average.

Pros:-
1. Outside of the city no pollution so can relax peacefully.
2. Rooms are well-maintained and the view is good.
3. Breakfast is good.
4. Ambiance is very good.

Cons:-
1. You must have vehicle then only you can travel in and around.
2. Room service can be improved.
3. Cost will not suit everyone.

If you really need to relax and to enjoy the comfort of luxury then go for it, you will not regret.

A good destination though approach road is bad. The resort itself is very good. Two room suite was spacious and roomy and reasonably well furnished. The resort provided a wide range of activities for all age groups. Good walking spaces within the resort. Food was excellent and made to our taste. We did not find the food very expensive.

Fantastic resort with great amenities. Check-in process was smooth, rooms were clean and had heaters in the each room. Enjoyed the free magic show, camp fire and the house. I had booked 2 classic rooms for 2 nights and one of my classic room was upgraded to a luxury suite for free. Also, if you are interested in adventure activities they have a couple of HRC's, artificial rock climbing and land zorbing for which you have to pay a small amount of fee. I would definitely recommend this place for couples, families, families with kids to stay.

Excellent place to stay in Ooty. Booked premier and classic rooms. Got monsoon special discount and there were no rains at all! Premier suit rooms are just awesome. Go for Room # 1210 if you can get it. Classic rooms are also good. There was an issue with Curtain Rod being jammed for one of the rooms we stayed and despite of notifying the housekeeping staff, it was never fixed.

So we could not open the curtains to enjoy the outside view from the window. This was for Room # 1211. Barring this incident, our stay was excellent. There are many rooms which has very good view of the mountains, valley and tea estates. It is located at a height above Ooty town. Overall, very happy with our stay at Sterling Fern Hill and enjoyed Ooty trip thoroughly towards end of September.

Though I had booked for Classic Suite, they have opted me for upgrade to Premium Room for three members. It got the fantastic view from balcony which we enjoyed a lot. Thanks for suggesting the upgrade with reasonable price. Every staff are very cooperative with prefixed mind to just help the guests. I was not able to guess how clean the hotel would be maintained before booking the room but was happy after checking in the hotel which have star rated hotel feel though shows as three star. Complimentary breakfast spread was good and the service staff are cooperative to allow the food to the room to feed the kid. They have even provided hot drinking water for kid which surprised me. I believe this is a very good stay for family. If I have to suggest any thing that would be the house keeping to make sure the towels were placed and bed sheets were timely changed. Overall, descent stay!
