Sunder Nagar, presently a municipal council of the Mandi District, was once the Mandi Jail. This town has many temples situated on the top of the hill, including the old temple of Mahamaya. There is also the Sukhdev Vatika on the hill. The Beas-Sutlej Hydel Project, considered to be the biggest hydroelectric project in Asia, is also situated in this town.
