About Suruli Falls (Water Fall)

The Suruli Falls is also known as Cloudland Falls and Megamalai Falls. It falls from a height of around 150 ft. The ideal time to visit this place is between the months of June and October. There are several caves near the falls, including the Kailasanathar Temple Cave, located at a height of 800 m. The cave is known to have a spring with healing powers.

A dargah named after Abubacker Masthan, a Muslim mystic, can be visited from here. It is believed that Abubacker Masthan used to live here in the 1630s. The dargah is the place where his body was buried.

The Suruli Velappar Temple, dedicated to Lord Kartikeya, is also located near the falls. The temple is visited by a large number of worshippers on every Saturday of the Tamil month of Chithirai.

"Nice waterfalls"

  • 5.0/7

Suruli falls is located at cumbam town of tamil nadu, which is the border of tamil nadu and Kerala. We had been to the falls early morning expecting it to be less crowded but it did turn out to be crowded :(
It's just 45mins drive from cumbam can be reached by auto s, taxis or buses. The road is little damaged. The entry ticket is minimal. Be careful about the monkeys. Have to walk for half a kilometer through thick greener and huge trees to reach the falls from the toll. There are restrooms and dustbins along the way decently maintained. Have to climb stairs to reach the falls for aged people it might be difficult. Along the stairs side there are dressing rooms for men and women. And there are separate lines for men and women to go to the falls. The water is fresh and will have nice time under water. Mobile phones not allowed near the falls. Better to go little early in the morning to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

"Small and awesome falls"

  • 6.0/7

There are mini buses operated by private vendors in suruli theertham (suruli falls). Ticket is just Rs 10. Food is also good and available outside the falls. People blindly just take a soap bath in the falls that's the only problem and has to be controlled. Else its an awesome experience.

"Untouched Nature"

  • 6.0/7

Suruli Falls which is 30 km from Theni and 10 km from Cumbum. Journey to this falls make you feel awesome, you can find beauty of nature. Grape garden, beautiful greenery fields and Mullai Periyar River. Suruli falls popularly known as by locals as Divine water, as it came through the thick forest which is full of rare herbals which is good for health.

"No very clean, needs maintenance"

  • 3.0/7

The walk down the woods was good; the destination less enchanting. People have made the waterfall a bathroom. Almost all people I saw applied oil on head (brought oil in bottles/sachets) and carried soap with them. It is a pity that we robbed the place of its beauty. Plastic items including clothes contaminate the place. If only the authorities took more care.

"Some provisions should be made to make it a good tourist destination"

  • 3.5/7
  • Posted Jul 17, 2014
We had to walk close to two and half kilometer to reach the falls, which was extremely tiring. Walking so far was not worth since there was very little water in the fall. Many facilities should be provisioned to make this place a good tourist destination.
