A superb hotel with extremely attentive staff.A place where you can have complete relaxation and rejuvenation. The restaurant is very good with a wide variety of freshly prepared menu on offer. They will take you on a natures walk every morning with sighting of rare interesting birds and animal species. Hotel also arranges a boat ride through vembanad lake, a very relaxing experience. This was the last leg of our trip to Kerala culminating with our stay at the Taj Kumarakom. We are a family of 4 with 2 children aged 6 and 9 years. Owing to a transport stir on the day we arrived, we actually reached the hotel very early that morning as we wanted to avoid any road blocks or protests enroute from Thekkady to Kumarakom. Despite our early arrival, we received a warm welcome by the Taj staff who within 15 minutes obliged us with an early check in. This was really welcome as we arrived much earlier than the check in time and despite the hotel being full, the kind gesture made us feel very welcome. This was the beginning of an awesome stay at the hotel. The rooms overlook the lagoon and takes your breath away. The design and decor of the room was appealling and the staff very friendly and courteous. The entire property is well designed and one is not tempted to explore any further as the hotel takes care of all your needs. The restaurant which has an A/c closed section as well as the open air area suits every palette and starting from the buffet breakfast which has a wide spread to the lunch and dinner - the entire menu is fascinating and delicious. Every evening the hotel arranges some entertainment over dinner be it the traditional dance or singing and the ambience of the open air restaurant has to be experienced to believe - it is just something that takes you to another place. The kids were thrilled as there was no room for any boredom. One could cyle around the property (cyles are provided gratis), do some fishing, or just take the paddle boat or the boat with oars if you are good at it and do your own thing. They have ducks / geese and rabbits in one section where you can feed animals if you enjoy doing this or just laze around. The hotel also arranges cooking sessions with the chef, and workshops for the children during the day - eg. painting, colouring, pottery etc and certificates are provided which enhances the excitement for the children. The swimming pool allows for those who enjoy swimming although I would mention that the pool could have been cleaner. The Spa section / Beauty parlour is also available for relaxation if you so wish. We were also taken to the backwaters by the hotel who arranges a house boat in the evening for their customers. Post our return from the backwaters, they had arranged for some sports / games for the children at which prizes were given out and also for some tea and hot snacks in the garden area. Our entire stay at the hotel was more than pleasant and much above what we expected. My kids are so taken up with the Taj in Kumarakom that I am sure we will return to this place soon. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kumarakom and say you need not have to look further - its God\'s own paradise truly!
Imagine being cut-out from the real-world in a blissful, cocooned getaway. A place where you slowly watch time run by. Where you can take fishing & boating trips within the resort lakes, cycle up and down the property, or just relax in a hammock. Where you meet fellow guests over evening 'chai' at a tea-shop overlooking the lake (while listening to bollywood/kollywood/tollywood music). Life doesn't get any more relaxing than a stay here, as you understand the literal meaning of the word 'unwind'. Two things call for a special word of mention. First, the staff & service. The word here is exceptional. They really make a genuine effort to make your trip memorable. The evening we arrived, the manager was casually checking if this was a special occasion and we happened to mention that it was a delayed birthday trip (my birthday was a week ago). The next evening, at 'Chai-adda' the staff got a birthday cake as fellow guests joined in the revelry. This is what is meant by going 'an extra mile'. Ten on Ten for service. Second, the Temptation Pool Villa. If you can afford it, go for it (be it for a single night). In all my travels, this was by far, the most luxurious room I have had. And this resort was by far, the most relaxing stay I have had. Stayed April 2015.
Spent 3 nights at Taj, Kumarakom and just too happy about the service, the destination the food and the rooms. They just took care of each and every guest like a guest at home. Manager personally interacted with us about the quality or changes or feedback. They had activities from 9 am till 5pm including cookery classes to games for kids to pottery to boat rides in the property to kathakali dance to music show. They offered us complimentary sightseeing and a village boat ride and it was splendid. High tea and snacks in the evening is something I never experienced anywhere else. Right on the sea shore they have huge green lawn where they arrange their high tea. Its just wow. They did celebrated one of the guest bday and everybody had a cake. Majority rooms have water front and it's kept clean and clear. One point to note that the spa is amazing and they do have good knowledge about body and skin. I had skin problem ( lichen planus) and knew that ayurvedic medicines are best in Kerala so I took the consultation from Taj body spa doctor for free and he suggested some medicines which gave a relief from my problem. That's something I won't forget in my lifetime. Food is lip smacking and when they came to know I am ordering same desert everyday and I have liked it on the last dinner they offered me the same desert on the house! How thoughtful! What else you need in the stay when your are packed with good activities amazing food and cooperative staff and huge plush rooms. I just had my most amazing time for 4 days.
Visited for relaxing 3 days and it was better than expectations. First of all the rooms are really big, with sub rooms attached, great balcony space, adjacent ponds. Very very spacious bathrooms. All heritage style decoration with modern appliances like big TV. Staff was super helpful and courteous. Front office is well-decorated and dining area is open too. Best part is lighted Diyas by local ladies around the inhouse big Pond of the hotel. It really looks majestic. Not to forget the Kumarakom Lake is on the other side of the Hotel, you can enjoy evening snacks on the Lake shore (staff will serve you there). Good activities too, fishing, cycling, bird watching and pot making. Excellent ayurvedic Spa for which Taj is known. Swimming pool is very clean and with bar counter. Just have relaxing time if you go there. You won't regret booking there. Next time If I go, I will use the houseboat stay there too.
We wanted to spend weekend in relaxing way with our daughter in nature's lap and hence, decided to go to Kumarakom which famous for it's quiet life and scenic beauty with lakes, lagoons and of course, backwaters. But it was our stay in Taj that enhanced all our experience. This property is absolutely beautiful. We stayed in premium Villa that had a private pool. They provided ample toiletries, towels, bath-slippers, clean linen everything was 5 star level. That whole weekend was like a dream. Shower under the open sky, lake at backside, courteous and friendly staff, activities like boating, fishing, pottery, cultural programs of carnatic music, bharatnatyam, candle lighting in the evening everything was out-worldly. And food, well they have spoiled us for good. It is 100% worth trying if you are looking for a luxurious stay. The thing that pleased us most was their staff taking care of us especially our daughter. It is a very kid-friendly as well as elder-friendly place. I can say you can skip going anywhere and stay only at Taj and you will not miss anything. For they even arrange country side boating in the backwaters. The only glitch was Wi-Fi had some router issue in our Villa and that took some time to be fixed. Also, the one hour boat ride in Vembanad lake would be more enjoyable if they can make it in evening serving tea over there itself apart from their regular tea-evening.
