About Talakona Waterfalls

Talakona Waterfalls is situated at about 49 km from Tirupati and is regarded as the main entrance to the Tirumala Hills. The water drops from the height of approximately 270 ft, which makes it the highest waterfall in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located in Sri Venkateswara National Park, which lies in the Chittoor District. Local inhabitants believe that the water of Talakona Waterfalls possesses some medicinal values.

Situated next to this waterfall is a small temple, which is dedicated to Lord Siddeshwara Swamy. This temple is usually crowded during the Shivarathri festival, which is a very popular event in this region. The ideal season to see the waterfalls is between November and January, when the climatic conditions are favourable.

"Picnic spot located on the hill but without food facility"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Mar 26, 2016
I visited this spot with my family as when "I went to Tirumala for darshan". This spot is just 8kms from the temple on the hill itself and "devasthanam buses, local autos, jeeps" will be continuously available here to reach this spot from the temple. There is no entry ticket for this spot and the "nature is so beautiful and sweet" here to stay. But the food stuff will be available more here just some "soft drinks, chips " will be available. So "I recommend travellers for this spot to have picnic, get here with your food stuff and water" and enjoy the trip guys.

"Excellent and beautiful fall but no barrage gates around it"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Mar 23, 2016
This is "very beautiful and the fall is very high" and is falling from tops of the hill. The upper hill is so high waterfall but we cannot reach them. Down the fall there is a "small pond" which is down correctly to it. And it is not surrounded with any barrage gates so which is risky for who go to this waterfall with kids. The fall is "good with beautiful nature around with it" but it is not well known and well-maintained. The fall will be somewhat risky to go at evening times and "I recommend you to go to this fall early and so late evening".

"Best waterfall"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Mar 22, 2016
I visited this place with my friends during the visit to Tirumala. Just "it is 8kms away from Tirumala" and it can be reached through auto or "devasthanam buses will be available frequently". The waterfall downing is "awesome and so beautiful to see it". But the bad thing is that "no safety barrel gates are available at the fall down river" and as anyone can go and swim into it, so it "may be risk with kids". I recommend to visit the place compulsory but be careful with your one's at the same time.

"Best time to visit the waterfall is during Rainy time"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Mar 16, 2016
It is located in Chittoor district near Tirupati. It is the must visit place for the visitors to Tirupati and it is comfortable for the picnic spot and the area is so pleasant. And some food stuff is also available here from the local people near to it. To reach the waterfall some distance should be walked by taking steps to top of the small hill which is in good condition and then the view from the hill to the "down nature is awesome". The "correct time to visit the place is during Rainy time" only at that time the fall will be in good sum other time the fall will not be more.

"Adventurous and full enjoying"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Dec 30, 2015
The Talakona Waterfall is located in the Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. The waterfall is very beautiful and also small ponds are present, it is better if visited during day time. The people should be very careful while walking on rocks as they are very slippery, especially ladies should be very carefull as I saw many got slipped on smooth rocks. Many people I saw swimming, there is a small way to go up to experience the nice waterfall. The most interesting is standing below waterfall and water falling on top of us like small stones, initially hurts but later we get accommodated, actually there was no entry fee when I went.

"Best falls and good safety"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Dec 14, 2015
One of the best waterfalls around Tirupati, it has got really good safety and there is a natural pool at starting of the waterfalls. People who cannot walk can stay at pool others can walk to the main falls and all age groups can enjoy nicely.

"Spectacular location"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Nov 19, 2015
I visited the place in summer, however the water level is slightly low. We arranged a taxi from Tirupati to Talakona. However I noticed there were lack of facilities such as security, food etc. The nearest Shiva temple is one of the oldest temples. Near the waterfalls, there is botanical garden to see a variety of plants.

"Surrounded with wild animals"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Aug 8, 2015
Several types of government buses are available from Tirupati. It is a forest with wild animals, and the falls comes in between Piler Tirupati highroad. Old temple of Shiva is seen, great pooja is done during Shivaratri festivals, lightings to be seen, safari is done and I finally advice people or travellers to go to this forest without a miss. Food is very cheap, dosa is about Rs 8 and coffee is 3 only.

"One of the best in South India"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Jun 13, 2015
I have been to almost 10 waterfalls in Karnataka, but the 1st and the best of Andhra and trust me you will never forget this one because of its beauty. But make sure to be there before 5 pm and return before it's dark because it's in middle of the jungle and you might find it hard to find highway back without GPS. Warning boards are not there for this, after rain it will be hard for people to come back from there as the path which leads to the fall gets blocked by the rain water gushing from the mountains around so be careful, take care and have fun.
