Tapola is a major tourist attraction located in Satara District of Maharashtra at a distance of about 72 km from Satara city and 30 km from Bamnoli. Situated on the banks of Shivsagar Lake, Tapola is also referred to as Mini Kashmir owing to its natural beauty.
Tapola village is situated at the convergence of River Koyana and River Solshi. The Shivsager Dam, which is the biggest in Maharashtra, is yet another attraction of Tapola.

Important: Visit in month of July only
Kaas Plateau of flowers and Kaas Lake are already very famous among tourists. But very few try reaching Tapola through dense forest via this route.
Obviously a must do trip when you looking forward to enjoy monsoon of Maharashtra! Road entangled around the high mountains of Sahyadri overlooking the backwaters of Koyana dam throughout the journey is just out of this world.
When I first took this road; I took 6 long hours to complete the journey of mere 59kms. And that was not because of the condition of the road or weather but I had to stop on every single step to experience the beauty of the nature !!
If you enjoy being in arms of mother earth this is for you.
Paradise for Nature photographers, Hikers and trekkers!
Not so advisable for family trips!
You must start from Kaas before 9:00am so that you can pass the forest before sunset. You will not find any shops hotels or fuel stations on the road. Ensure you have your tank full before you leave! (Your vehicle will probably under perform in terms of mileage as you wont get a chance to shift to more than third gear)
Have enough food and water stocked as there are no chance of getting these once you enter the forest.
Dense forest, paddy fields and uncountable waterfalls !! Every waterfall you encounter will make you feel "It cant be better than this" but the very next will prove you wrong! (There were 123 waterfalls till I counted)
No need to tell you what you are supposed to do here. There are no wild animals except monkeys; hence its totally fine if you get down from your vehicle.
Your target is to reach Tapola before sunset. So go explore! Do whatever you want to do!
Trust me you will have a lifetime experience!
*while you walk look for scorpions
*while you enjoy springs and falls be aware that the flow of water may be to fast for you to even stand. And it will directly take you to the Koyana Dam Backwater. And most important, there is hardly anybody to save you.
