About Tashi View Point

voted as clean

Tashi View Point constructed by the King of Sikkim, Tashi Namgyal, is located at a distance of 4 km from Gangtok. Adorned with a park on its top, this view point is one of the best places in entire Sikkim to enjoy beautiful view of Mount Kanchenjunga. In addition, the Phodong Monastery and the Labrang Monastery located on the opposite hills can also be seen from the Tashi View Point.

The place also has a perching shed along with cafeteria, which provides shelter and a perfect resting spot to tourists.

Nothing Special better go to hanuman tok. Nothing to offer new. Provides view of Gangtok and Kanchenjunga range. Just another tourist spot for name sake nothing new. It is great location to view Kanchanjanga you can view snow covered mountains from this points, and one can also have snacks from shops available.

"Tower to view the city"

It's a sort of tower from where Gangtok city can be viewed. Need to climb some steps to reach the viewpoint. Approximately there are around 200 steps.

"Worth to visit only when sky is clear"

  • 4.0/7
  • Posted May 10, 2016
It is worth to visit only when sky is clear. Otherwise one finds only the clouds and mist towards the snow clad mountain peaks. However on the day when weather and peaks view is clear, it would be good place to spend sometime watching the white snow peaks. Nearby restaurants add value to the place.

"Panoramic view for Eyes"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted Oct 15, 2015
It's located in Tashi and about 8kms from the Gangtok town. It offers a sweeping view of Kanchenjunga snow peaks on a clear day. In fact the view of Sunrise from here is unforgettable, you will see the Peaks dazzling with changing colours. But for that you must reach the point before 5am and unfortunately I cannot make it by that time.

In the opposite mountains, you can see the Phodong and Labrang monasteries. From the road level you need to climb steep flights of stairs to reach up to the circular viewing area. What one can try here is the traditional Buddhist Dresses for just Rs 30/-. Waterfall standard.

Tashi View Point is covered under local tours offered by the taxi drivers. It's about 8kms from Gangtok town and near Bakthang.

"Good souvenirs"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Jun 25, 2015
A place to sit and enjoy the weather and view of Great Himalayan ranges. There is a small store here to buy souvenirs though mostly Chinese imports there are Sikkimese handicrafts here. The goods here such as antique swords couldn't be found elsewhere in Sikkim, especially its cheap.

"Due to foggy weather poor visibility"

  • 4.0/7
  • Posted May 11, 2015
Although the place has been developed to see good views from hill top, but due to foggy weather, most of the time it is not clearly visible. The small shops and restaurants makes the place a typical business related tourist spot. The place is not an unique place.

"Visit only if you are passing through"

We happened to pass through Tashi View Point on our way to Lachung and Yumthang. Just as normal as any other viewpoint. No special visit to that place required.

"Go there and sit for a while"

  • 4.0/7
  • Posted Dec 10, 2014
Tashi viewpoint is a bit overrated but it is great to sit there and watch the sunset. Get something to drink, sit there and watch the sun set, go at the time when there are less tourists.
