Munnar food, sight-seeing and shopping options
The Mattupetty lake and dam , the sprawling Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala lake are places to go to. There are boating facilities on the Mattupetty Dam. Pothamedu Pothamedu offers an excellent view of the tea, coffee and cardamom plantations in Munnar. There are many other spice plantations official and otherwise-A must see Devikulam. This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. Attukal A panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills, Nyayamakad Located between Munnar and Rajamala, Nyayamakad is a land of breathtaking waterfalls. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1600 meters. Rajamala The natural habitat of the Niligiri tahr , Rajamala is 2695 Mts above sea level. Half the world's population of the rare mountain goat or tahr which is fast becoming extinct, is now found here.The Niligiri tahr are found in Eravikulam-Rajamala region. A beautiful well kept sanctuary is the Eravikulam National Park Visiting Time : 0700 - 1800 hrs. Entry Pass : Rs. 10 for adults, Rs. 5 for children below 12 years. You need to go a little early as there are long queues for the tickets The shopping here is mainly spices which you can get in town or even when you visit a tea plantation. And then of course there is tea. You get good tea ranging from strong to flavoured at the tata tea outlet. good cardamom especially. Every hotel has its own speciality but sharavana bhavan right in the heart of the town is amazing food be it tiffin or lunch a must visit.
