It was an excellent stay!

Posted 20 Nov, 2015

Stayed at Tea Nest for 3 nights during Durga Puja Hoildays - checked in on 20th Oct night and checked out on the 23rd morning. We reached Coimbatore Airport from Kolkata on 20th at about 6 pm and boarded the hotel car at about 6-30 pm. As per prior arrangement made during internet booking. Hotel people had intimated me the driver's name and mobile number through SMS beforehand and the driver was ready at the Airport gate. There was a severe traffic jam near a bridge on the way to Coonoor and that took nearly an hour's extra time of journey. On the way, we received a call from the hotel asking for our desired menu for the dinner. We reached there at about 9-30 pm and oh! They greeted us with hot lemon tea immediately. We got freshened up and took a grand hot dinner as per our wishlist conveyed earlier. The night had a heavy downpour but the rain was a blessing in disguise. In the morning, there were clouds and fogs everywhere. The hotel is surrounded by lush green tea gardens rather, it is situated within a tea garden. The atmosphere is serene and holy and our eyes were freshened up by the greenery everywhere. Clouds and fogs prevailed over the atmosphere during our entire stay and we discovered this as a great luck for us. Tourists stay at Ooty and take a day trip for Coonoor but that is a great mistake. One should stay at Coonoor for enjoying it's glamorous beauty. On the 22nd, we took a hotel car for local sightseeing. There are lots of tea gardens at Coonoor and you can enjoy their sight during your travel for local sightseeing. The spots at Coonoor (except Sim's Park) is not worth seeing and suffer from severe traffic congestion. But Sim's Park is very big and excellent and you will enjoy it. One thing I do remember about Hotel Nest people as a sweet memory. The dining hall closes at 2-30 pm, but we were late in returning to hotel after local sightseeing on the 22nd (due to jam in traffic). The dining hall was closed but we were astonished to see that the Manager himself was waiting for us. He, along with one of his associates, served us hot lunch in a very homely manner. Mere conveying our thanks to them was not enough, we realised. So far as we could gather, there are only six rooms at the hotel. It has a big, modern kitchen and of course, there are smiling members of staff who are always eager to help the visitors. There is a neatly maintained sitting area and you will have selected books over there. For children, there is ample scope of games. I have noticed two bicycles (with helmets) meant for the children and two umbrellas even. Breakfasts are complimentary and are sufficient and they boast of varieties. They try to accommodate you as much as they can. We have a very sweet memory of our beautiful stay at Tea Nest. We wished that we should cut short our stay at Ooty, our next destination and which is very congested now-a-days. We stayed at room Silver Tips and possibly that is the best one. Important : Always book your vehicle from the hotel. That is not at all expensive. And another last word - pray for rains during your stay, so that you can live with the clouds and fogs amidst lustful greeneries of far reaching tea gardens. They have another property called Tea Nest Annexe and it is located some 1. 2 Kms away from Tea Nest. It has only two rooms and has all the facilities like restaurant. But it is extremely lonely and is probably fit for those who come in big groups.

Excellent resort in a beautiful setting

Posted 13 Oct, 2015

Was my first visit to Coonoor. The hotel itself is right in the middle of a tea garden- part of the Singara estate, complete with a tea factory at the end of the road. The hotel is a beautiful bungalow and has a old World homely feel to it. There are books, board games, bicycles. The rooms are large, spacious with fireplaces and heater equipped bathrooms. Nothing better than snuggle in a warm blanket in a warm bed on a cold night. We were a group of nine and we took three rooms and the independent cottage. The cottage became our impromptu hangout for all the days. The small seating area and kitchen space was perfect for all our eating and drinking. Speaking of food and drink- they run a very good kitchen. The food was excellent and the quantities were generous. Especially, I like their breakfast. Things to do- A lot. Within the hotel, you can sit, read and sip tea in complete calm. Take a walk or go bicycling. The roads around are beautiful, but some stretches can be steep. But that's a challenge worth taking. The road meanders through the tea gardens. You can see tea being plucked, clouds lazily drifting around the hills and the sun playing hide and seek with everything. On our second day we went for a walk and saw a herd of bison in the tea gardens and we took a lot of photos in the gardens ourselves. Places to visit- There are about two or three spots-Dolphin nose, tiger hill, Lamb's rock. We couldn't make it to Sim's park but they say it is good and Coonoor town and is a pretty little place. Things to do- visit the places mentioned above, buy tea, chocolates, spices, walk a lot and yeah, the resort has a tea tasting course, where they explain how to distinguish the different teas. It's worth it. Take the Nilgiri toy Train if possible. What not to do- If you are driving yourself, make sure you have a good GPS system and good foglamps. Also, at Lamb's rock, avoid the guides who will offer to show you a shortcut. There is just one path and the strategic spots are those where the maximum people converge. Overall, a very nice, very restful holiday.

Homely stay near a tea garden

Posted 13 Mar, 2014

My wife, daughter and my golden retriever accompanied me here for the year-end holidays. The property is a bit away from Coonoor town, which is not an issue if you have a vehicle with you always. The property is within a tea garden and is perfect for walks. Nice cloud formations on the slopes of the tea garden make it a more serene place. The rooms are basic, but large. The decor is again basic but clean with nothing worth mentioning. Being the year-end holiday, it was very expensive. Food is expensive at Tea Nest. Not much variety, but whatever we chose from the menu was good. The kitchen helped us cook food for my 2-year-old daughter and my dog. There is no activity as such within the resort. Some of the rooms are within compound of another private property, where the owners would object if we walk around. This becomes confusing to understand what belongs to Tea Nest and what doesn’t. Some cement repair work was also going on there for the first day and few hours on the second day as well. I would recommend the place to anyone who seeks peaceful basic accommodation, with the advantage of staying within a tea garden. Otherwise there are other better resorts/hotel/homestays in the vicinity.

Once of the best places to stay in Coonoor

Posted 14 Mar, 2016

We stayed at Tea Nest in the month of Feb 2016, I must stay this place is really worth staying. As the name suggests, it is situated between lovely tea estates all around the property. It brings you close to nature and help you relax as you are away from all the crowd and traffic. The rooms are named after different Tea's, we had booked Jasmine which is a separate room and is the biggest of all of them. The room is a old bungalow maintained well. We were served with Basil tea as a welcome drink which was refreshing start. The complimentary breakfast was tasty and would give an 8 out of 10. The food on the menu was above average(ordered only veg) and the veg options are limited. I can keep writing on and on but I would like to stop and sum it up my saying it's a great place to stay. One should not miss this place mainly for the view and the hospitality. I will mention few Pro's and Con's Pro's: Location, Hospitality, Breakfast, Wi Fi, Please try the Tea it's awesome. Con's: No intercom connection in the Jasmine room ordering can be a pain The room smells of the dampness that could be a spoiler. The approach roads are horrible since the property is around 2 kms from the main road.

Stay in the nature

Posted 6 Jul, 2016

We had an opportunity to stay @Tea Nest in the mid of June 2016. Most beautiful place to stay around in full green tea valley. Eye witness greenery 360 degrees all around you. Morning 6:30AM just walk into the tea estate you witness sun rise and sparkling green tea leaves welcoming you. All you listen is birds humming. Amazing place you experience, weather changes in short period as you see bright sun, next moment clouds passing on and next moment you might see fog. I enjoyed photography and proud myself to capture some of the great moments. Just relax your self out side sipping cup of tea/coffee, talking to your family. My 2 years old son liked the place so much and ran all over the tea gardens and played with toys in the home stay. We played tennis, rode by-cycle. I strongly recommend Tea Nest to the people who would like to stay in the nature, forget about the world and be your self !!! Tea Nest staff was very supportive, considering the children they took care of us very well. Food was great and all the time pleasant. Thank you Tea Nest team, you should be proud of what your are doing and please continue the same !!!
