"Good Hotel with easy access to beach"

6.2/7
Posted 20 Jan, 2016

Stayed here with Family for two nights during November 2015. Booked last minute but the room was decent. Resort located easily on the GPS and a short drive distance from Promenade, Auroville and other landmarks in Pondicherry. Easy access to the beach. Room was airy and well kept. Good Housekeeping. Courteous staff but had difficulty responding in English. Provided cycles for guests for use within the resort. Good restaurant but the time to service was long. Better go early place order and then complete tasks and come back to restaurant. Can also plan to take food from restaurants outside the resort near Auroville. Separate pool for kids and adults, but not that great. Yoga, Pottery, Milking are some of the activities. Play area available for kids. Had a room in one of the cottages near the restaurant but it was still silent. Lotus ponds near the rooms and restaurants were stinking, need to be cleaned regularly.

"Brilliantly done eco-village resort"

6.3/7
Posted 6 Nov, 2015

Stayed here for one night in May 2015 on a quick getaway with the family. Drove down from Chennai - 2. 5 hours from the city. The resort is just-off ECR before you reach Pondicherry city. The check-in was comfortable. We went straight to the restaurant for our meal. We were just beginning to be taken in by the breathtaking ambiance of the resort, which begun with the reception and now the restaurant. Food was quite good, despite a rather limited menu, with not too many veg options. Coming to the highlight of the resort- its rooms. Each villa/bungalow/cottage is of its own unique design and layout, with a distinctive theme. Each of these bungalows is 2 or 3-bedroom. The rooms were very tastefully done up and are nothing like the hotel or resort rooms we are all used to. These were totally offbeat in design, with sloping roofs, red, yellow and blue paint on the walls. The entrance to each room is like you were stepping into a heritage medieval Indian house. There was a stone-bathtub to relax and rejuvenate your senses, the bed frame and room furniture, ceiling included, were made of a lot of wood. Some of the room even had an attic with a mattress, where the kids could climb up and make their 'den'. The rooms were nothing short of fabulous, and were truly the highlight of the resort- something you'd definitely come back for. The private beach of the resort is nice, as is the swimming pool. We heard a lot about the resort's spa, however, we didn't have a chance of pampering ourselves with its services this time. Next time, definitely! There is also an organic store, with food and other crafts made by the residents of the local communities of the eco-village and nearby areas. We picked up some organic oils and organic fruit jams, which were really delicious! Tip: Don't visit during the peak summer months, as the weather is quite humid and sticky. October-February is a good time to visit. Another caveat for families travelling with senior citizens: the resort, true to its theme of being an 'eco' village, does not permit its guests' motor vehicles into the resort property; there is a parking lot where you leave your cars & the entire resort through its muddy and rocky natural pathways is to be explored either on foot or on the bicycles the resort provides, in addition to an old, run-down "Maruti Omni" that you can request from the Reception to take you around the resort (Eg: from room to restaurant or from spa to swimming pool), which takes REALLY LONG to arrive anyway. So, one basically has no option but to walk or pedal around the resort. Thus, this resort isn't ideally suited for families with elders who have reduced physical abilities, as it isn't very wheelchair accessible either.

"The Dune is an excellent place to chill and relax...."

5.9/7
Posted 29 Jul, 2011

The Dune is an excellent place to chill and relax...worth mentioning that it comes with a price ! The stay is pricey compared to any other resort in the area , though worth it all I guess ... My two year old son calls The Dune our "new home" and has fresh memories of our stay two months back in May 2011. Though Pondy is HOT in May, the resort is excellent ... the pool is lovely and so is their in house organic farm... They have lots to ensure we don't need to step out of the place. We stayed in the Wood House and must compliment the place, it was a lovely cottage with a private garden and a backyard and one of their 4 pet dogs to keep company always !

" Great food, brilliant location. Rooms can be brighter."

Slightly racist. Great food, brilliant location. Rooms can be brighter, the dark look was good, but it could be a little brighter and slightly better maintained. The waalk to the beach was awesome.

"Superb theme hotel with enough facilities"

5.5/7
Posted 19 Jan, 2015

I travelled with my friends for relaxation to this hotel and I liked their theme more. The hotel was convenient to travel but it was far from Bus Stand and Railway Station. To reach this hotel I did not face any issues. The hotel environment was good and maintained neat. There were no shopping malls or temples located near to the hotel. The service provided by the management was good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room theme was good but still they could have improved more. It was spacious, neat but the accessories were looking old. The pillows, bed sheet was in fine condition. It was an AC room with all required amenities in working condition. There was no view from the room. The washroom accessories were old but they provided hot and cold water regularly. I ate food in the hotel restaurant, which was good in taste with many varieties of veg and non-veg dishes. The cost of food was high. There was no delay in check-in and check-out. There were no games, activities, or sightseeing organised by the management. I can recommend this hotel to other travellers as it was value for our money. I liked my stay in this hotel so I suggest them to improve their accessories, lamp, lighting etc.
