"My go-to place; breathtaking view from room "

6.0/7
Posted 21 Dec, 2015

I have reviewed the restaurants in the hotel several times earlier and this is always my go-to place for food. This time we came here to stay in this Hotel for a day to experience the room, sea and the food. I never get disappointed with anything concerning the Taj and this stay of mine is no exception. They upgraded our room to a sea-facing room. An absolutely breathtaking view from our room where we could see the backwaters, the several islands. Eg. Wellington, Mattanchery, Bolghaty Palace, the Vypeen Islands and the Vallarpadam Container Terminal. We could also see the opening leading to the Arabian sea. The staff were very efficient, courteous and effective. We had both Breakfast and Lunch in the Bubble cafe. The Breakfast spread was humongous and extremely tasty. The spread contained both the Continental and the South Indian varieties. The Lunch as usual was lovely with a lot of items and not to mention my favourite which is the dessert. Visited their Bar which is aptly named as the "Swirl". Very spacious and styled simple but tastefully done. The Bar overlooks the "Bubble Cafe" restaurant. The Happy hours ensured that it didn't pinch my pockets too much. They took the inmates for a complimentary Boat ride which took us around all the Islands and up to the mouth of the Arabian Sea. The Guide in the Boat Mr. Mark was quite knowledgeable and narrated all the stories concerned with the Islands. Truly a wonderful day's stay of relaxation, great food and a fantastic boat trip.

"The best located hotel & totally value for money"

6.9/7
Posted 8 Jun, 2015

The Gateway Hotel, by Taj, is situated right on the Marine Drive of Kochi. If you opt for a sea-facing room, the view is mesmerizing and surreal. The huge glass windows span almost an entire wall, offering a clear view of the sea and the marine drive. The hotel is immaculately maintained, like any other Taj property, and the rooms are extremely comfortable and well-appointed. An abundance of high-quality Biotique cosmetics in the bathroom, exquisite teabags and complimentary cookies in the room, and a complimentary guided cruise across the backwaters of Kochi along with high tea (this was a complete surprise for us as it was not part of the standard inclusions) complete the experience. Breakfast is awesome and the restaurant where the huge buffed spread is served, has clear glass walls on all sides offering splendid garden views and sea views. It feels like sitting in the open air and dining, and if not for the air-conditioning keeping the sultry Kochi heat away, I am sure many would mistake it for an alfresco dining place. The only thing that perhaps does not quite match up to the standards of a Taj is the selection of bakery items on offer. The hospitality is awesome and they pamper you and spoil you like anything. All in all, it is a delightful place to stay in and totally value for money. Being located on Marine Drive, it is situated at the most happening place in the city and you can enjoy your evening walks on the private stretch of the beautifully maintained marine drive as well. Make sure you opt for a queen bed and a sea-facing room when you book. Also, it may be a good idea to call them directly and get the best rates before you decide whether to book it online from an OTA or through their own website.

"Brilliant ambience and a perfect view from the hotel"

5.9/7

I stayed at the Gateway Hotel Marine Drive in Kochi on an official trip for two days. The hotel is pretty far from the Airport. It took us close to an hour to reach the venue but the wait was worth what awaited us. The hotel is at the perfect location. Just overlooking the sea the hotel makes an awesome spot for enjoying sunrise with a cup of morning coffee. If you a fitness freak, you cant ask for a better location. You get to go for a morning run alongside the sea on a well paved path with trees on both sides of it. The rooms are averagely spacious but offer extreme comfort and luxury. The beds are well-done and the toiletries a nicely maintained in the rest rooms. WiFi offer decent surfing speed and the staff is extremely helping and cordial. The hotel arranges for a complimentary hour long cruise ride in the evening in the adjoining backwaters of the sea. The selling point of the hotel is its restaurant. Its got a brilliant ambiance and a perfect lighting offered by its translucent ca-nope. One can feel the natural sunlight in the restaurant but no warm and sticky weather even in the humid months of April-May, thanks to their splendid air conditioning system for the same. The food menu is exhaustive, covering most of the cuisine though a little on an expensive side. The buffet is excellent and desserts are sumptuous. The restaurant has live music performance for dinner which simply makes the dining experience heavenly. Overall, a perfect choice for an accommodation option in Kochi. Looking forward for more stays in the future.

"Good hotel to stay in perfect location "

The hotel is situated right at the heart of city. Having stayed in this property for more than 100 times now I can vouch that weather you wanna shop at the Broadway or have a nice sip of coffee at Bharat cafe( St Louis hall 1910) all these places are stone throw away from Taj. Swirl the bar at Taj has got a wonderful connect with the royal pubs and it's a perfect place to indulge in a nice get together in the evening. From my side 10/10 for the location and the bar. Rooms needs to be renovated but they are neat and clean, for a avid traveller I think location matters the most from where he can visit everywhere.
