This 'resort' was chosen because of the great reviews it has here but regretfully it fails and miserably to even qualify to be called a resort. I'd like to begin by mentioning what's good about it. 1. If you are heading to kemmanagundi and need to stop in close proximity, this is aptly located. 2. Has a number of good bon fire pits to keep the evenings warm and engaging. Since those are the only good I can think to mention, I should directly get to what didn't make this stay memorable in a good way. 1. Ambiance :The campus/area of this resort looks deserted. It doesn't offer you a safe or secure feeling. Has no security at the gates all times. 2. Front desk: I didn't see one so not sure they have one. Which is fine if they were available when we needed them. The staff is not around so in the middle of nowhere one isn't sure who to seek assistance from. 3. Food quality : we thought the food can best be described as below standards. After a tiring day the 'buffet' was Rasam rice and chicken that didn't taste any good. 4.Hospitality: if the food wasn't bad enough, the staff at the dining area would tell us to eat and leave fast as they need to go to bed (9 pm). And they were very dismissive when we'd request something. When I asked for clean bed sheets, the staff gave it to my hand and said he's going to sleep so to make the bed myself. If you disregard all of the above, even then the rooms are pathetic. Large that I do admit but filthy. The rooms had no AC, the fans didn't work well and the locks to the bathroom were broken. And the biggest issue I had was of the dirty soiled bed covers. So much for being called a RESORT. I wouldn't return here even if it was a LAST Resort. They have a huge property and I can see potential if they tried but guess they aren't bothered. Also Perhaps are too complacent to worry about guest satisfaction.

We wanted to take a good break from our routine and busy schedule. My friend had earlier suggested Kemmanagundi. We browsed and found that The Last Resort at foot hills of Kemmanagundi, offered homely stay. We travelled from Bangalore to Birur by train. We had pick-up arranged by the Hotel people and we checked in at around 5 pm. The location was excellent, surrounded by a beautiful garden. We could hear birds chirping and at a distance we could see the Kemmanagundi hills. The lodging was decent. After tea we had good play in the large badminton court located within the premises. Food was really homely and coconut dominated every dish. The next day after a good breakfast we went to Hebbe falls. The Jeep journey was really thrilling. We stopped 2 km ahead of falls and we reached the falls by trekking. One should be careful as the rocks are slippery. Going there in group is advisable. The next day we went to Bababudangiri, a pilgrim-centre and then to Mullayangiri, the highest peak of the Western ghats. One need to have reasonably good stamina to climb around 300 steps to reach the hill-top where Chennakesava temple is situated. Third day we visited Kemmanagundi hill-top where rose garden Raj Bhavan are situated. These places could have be maintained better. We started to Bangalore the next day with a longing to return for next vacation. Overall the lodging experience was wonderful. I would recommend stay at The Last Resort
We reached 'The last resort' at nine o'clock early morning. Booking the resort was not smooth but, check-in was easy. We got our cottage, which was clean and had a decent cot though room was basic. Outside, we had a sofa and a carom board. Resort has a good ambiance. There is beholding view of hills from its courtyard and it has very well maintained garden. Our kids enjoyed playing around. We had well prepared appetizing breakfast and lunch. In night, resort has arranged bonfire for individual cottages and we enjoyed it a lot. Kids had a great time sitting out and playing in night. I believe it is one of the best resorts in kemmannugundi. They need to improve on room interiors and booking process, otherwise whole experience was great and value for money.
At the outset, convey our special appreciation and grateful thanks to Mr. Veenubird, his family and staff, as also Mr.Prakash, the Manager, at The Last Resort - a Home way from Home - for their excellent hospitality and care extended to me and my family during our stay there. The Last Resort is situated in a beautiful and serene place, surrounded by natural beauty, at the foothills of Kemmanagundi, near Ballavara, Chikmagalur. I stayed with my family of six members for two days last week and we did really enjoy our stay at this resort. We felt quite homely and relaxed throughout our stay there. Mr. Veenubird and his team were extremely helpful and kind to us. The food was excellent (They have both Veg and Non-Veg food) and served on time everyday. We were told, they are planning to have a spacious kitchen and restaurant facility in the resort, shortly, for the guests. The rooms re quite spacious with all furnishings, including a wide-screen TV with different channels. Hot water was available throughout the day. The resort has also got good recreational facilities for both indoor and outdoor games. The resort is also centrally located and all the sightseeing places, like Habbe Falls, Kallathi Falls, Bababudengiri, Mullayyanagiri, etc., are quite nearby, and they also assist the Guests, upon request, in getting transportation facilities, like Jeeps, etc. for visiting these places. On the whole, it was quite a memorable experience for me and my family and we enjoyed our stay at The Last Resort, Chikmagalur, very much. We sincerely thank Mr. Veenubird and his staff very much for their kind hospitality.
We visited Chikmagalur mainly for leisure. We got information about this Home stay from internet. We just booked through phone and they kept our booking though we didn't pay in advance. Also contact person helped us guiding the route several times. We got a very warm welcome reaching there. We reached at 2.30 pm there and they served food also. Staffs were very good and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were very good. We were from north India and we didn't face any problem regarding food. Lunch was okay. We stayed there for two nights and three days. This hotel was in Kemmanagundi which was around 15 Kms from Chikmagalur town. But I feel this place was a centrally located if you want to cover most of the spots. Hotel was spread over a big land with nice garden and ample parking space which is sometime a problem in home stays. One problem we faced is noise between two adjacent rooms. All standard rooms are hut type and they have common wall and roof ventilation is common between rooms. So there was bit noise coming from other rooms. Overall Last resort is really value for money.
The resort is just awesome. The services are really good and the people very helpful. The resort has a Volleyball court and one Badminton apart from few TT tables. The TT tables are placed in the porch of cottage tough. One can also play games like chess and carrom. The place has enough open spaces to roam around. One can never get bored here. The bonfire at night is just amazing. The only thing that this place possibly lacked is a swimming pool. Do not expect much about food, specially if you are a vegetarian. The morning breakfast was a typical South Indian meal. The kushka too was not great. Lunch had few North Indian items, but taste and choice of vegetables was not good. Evening snack had assortment of pakoras and they were good. Dinner was comparatively better than lunch and breakfast, but few of our Vegetarian friend complained about dinner too. But one cannot expect exotic food in such conditions. So it is advisable to carry some dry fruits and packaged food items just in case. Apart from food, this place will give you no reason to complain.
