We spend 4 days in Gangtok, we stayed in Hotel Retreat, hotel staff is irresponsible, wifi is not working. Food and room are not clean, they charge service tax but don't give bill, when I ask for bill they start fighting.

In my last visit to Gangtok I stayed in the hotel The Retreat, I was there with a team with a team of 40 people.

About the hotel; First of all I would like to mention the reception received from the hotel management was really excellent. It was warm and make us feel that we can spend good time with them.

Accommodation: The room was good as per the rate in the Gangtok. Specially it was cleaned properly every day. Rooms are also specious and you can feel comfortable.

Food: Food was testy and served with good manner. Few difficulties: Locate the hotel as a stranger is difficult because it is in little interior and there was no proper direction board or display in any visible place.

Water supply in the hotel was a problem while it is full packed with tourist. Decoration of the hotel reception and the open air lounge can be improved.

Unfortunately I spent 70% of my trip time in this hotel only and this was a pathetic experience.

The best part of the hotel room was it's wooden flooring that is all.

Services- Worst. We checked in at 7. 15 pm in the hotel. Since then they started chasing us for dinner order. Why as they did not have raw chicken at their kitchen nor they had even eggs too. They called us thrice before we could even freshen up after our 27 hr long journey for dinner order. A basic expectation from a hotel is to have a good restaurant where a customer can place their order as per their own choice at-least till a certain cut off time. Their menu did not have non-veg items too. Half of the items in the menu were not available in the kitchen as confirmed by the manager. Taste was also pathetic. Rates were too high as per the standard of the hotel.

The manager was reluctant to give 2 separate towels for the couple checked in one double room. As per the manager only one towel is provided in a room, which is unhygienic. That means hotel management does not even bother to take care of the basic hygiene of their guests.

When I rechecked in to the hotel after my Lachung trip for 1 night, I and my wife called at the reception for a extra pillow for my kid thrice but no one bothered to send the same to our room. The jet spray of the toilet was leaking.

As per the website of the hotel they provide 24 hr WiFi, and I was happy to find that available too but it was not working at all. As it was a complimentary service so I will not comment on this.

Overall comment - I will not even suggest this hotel to my enemies (if any) too.

Total wastage of money. I would stay in hotel oriental (a better hotel) instead of this hotel as price is almost same. No facilities in this hotel. Staff behaviour is good but it is approx 1000/night hotel as it shows 3500-4500.

This is a very good hotel near M G Marg of Gangtok. The rooms are clean and enough big sized. What I liked most is the wooden floor of the rooms. It you are searching for a clean and homely hotel near M G Marg, then this hotel can be your destination. You can find many hotels near this place, but this is just 5-7 mins walk away from there and in a peaceful environment.

The hotel is near to M G road. We stayed there for three days. Generally we eat outside. And we have to climb to take the car for sightseeing. It was almost good in staying. The rooms were clean and service was satisfactory. They had kitchen facility too. Well hot water supply was also provided.

The hotel was situated in a remote area and the taxi driver was reluctant to go there. It was around 7 to 8 hours from the airport. Hotel surroundings were good. Staff was friendly and helpful. They were quick to provide services. It was a small hotel but the appearance of the hotel was nice both externally and internally. Sightseeing trip arrangement was not up to the mark. There was no problem in check-in and check-out procedure. The room allotted was neat, clean, spacious and well-maintained. There was no view out of the room. The amenities in the room were working properly. They cleaned the room and the washroom regularly. The quality and variety of food was okay but it was expensive. They had some indoor games in the hotel. They should reduce the rates of food.

Per day tariff of the hotel was Rs. 1200. Overall, my experience in this hotel was nice. Services were very good there. I liked it very much. Hospitality was very good in this hotel. Hotel was located in between Kazi and MG road. Room was neat, clean and well-maintained. It was very good. All basic amenities like geyser, etc. were present in the room. Lunch facility was not there. We took our meal outside the hotel. We only had breakfast there it was good. They did not provide any activity there. Location wise, It was easy to travel. It was value for money. It is a recommendable hotel to others. They gave us additional charges. Services can be little bit improved.

Comparing to the pictures published, the hotel it is too ordinary. Appearance is good, reception was good, manager was very helpful. Bathrooms are so neat and clean. Dining not so good, location was ok. Cost was a little bit higher but over all good choice for medium range travellers, travelling with family.

A wonderful place, feels like frozen in time. Wonderful sights and the hotel balcony seemed like a seat in heaven. Beautiful place and a great service from staff.

Best Experience: The view from the balcony of the hotel.

Worst Experience: nothing
