Best Experience: The thing that stands out about Abad Plaza is the professionalism of the staff. Check-in and check-out were smooth and completed in less than ten minutes. Of course, I had an advance reservation, which helped. All the staff is courteous, almost all speak and understand English and all are very easy to deal with. Every need was attended to immediately on request. Perhaps the one thing that they could work on is their smiles, which didn’t peek out once in an otherwise comfortable stay. The ‘Superior’ room that I stayed in was very large- three beds and a small sitting area with two comfortable chairs fit in very nicely and yet left us enough room to move around. The room is well-lighted, a rarity among hotel rooms. The bathroom had the latest fittings from Cera and was well-done up in marble and glass, complete with a tooth brush kit and comb. The room was furnished simply but the beds were comfortable, so no complaints. The room that we took looked onto M.G. Road and if you are a sensitive sleeper, the afternoon’s traffic permeates ever so slightly into the room. The traffic winds up by night as the shopping area closes down, so only the afternoon siesta could be a slight issue. There are two restaurants in the hotel, one serves Kerala-style food and the other normal cuisine. Since both restaurants served buffets, we skipped over to the restaurant at their group hotel, Abad Atrium, which is next-door and didn’t regret the decision. The food was great, the fish moilee to die for (it wasn’t on the menu by the way). The food at Abad Plaza too must have been great, judging by the crowded multi-cuisine restaurant. All in all, I would definitely go back, hoping that the housekeeping would have raised its standard by the time of the next visit.
Worst Experience: The one thing that I didn’t like about the room was the slight feeling of uncleanliness that one gets from the occasional slightly dirty towel and the light stains on the wooden floor that are visible only in the sunlight. The A.C. works better than it should and the technicians seem to be used to the complaints since the technician who visited our room had come prepared with a newspaper to cover part of the A.C. duct. Despite the covered duct, we had to switch off the A.C. by early morning to prevent ourselves from freezing over. Quite a surprisingly efficient airconditioning system for a hotel that wasn’t a 5-star! But sleep quality took a hit as we had to wake up at dawn to switch the A.C. off.
