Theerthamalai Temple is a sacrosanct place in Harur taluk of Dharmapuri District. It is renowned for being the place of worship of Lord Rama for absolving himself of the sin of having killed several demons in the war against Ravana. Temple of Lord Theerthagireeswar (Lord Shiva), it is a popular pilgrim and picnic centre. It is widely believed by the followers that a holy dip in the water of this spring will wipe out the sins committed by the people.

Situated about one kilometre up the steep slope of a hillock, the temple is thronged by devotees during the Mahashivarathiri festival. Since Chola and Vijayanagara Kings donated liberally to this temple, several inscriptions can be found in the site relating to these rulers.  Rama Theertham is a spring in the temple complex, which is believed to have been made by Lord Rama.

As per popular belief, Rama sent Hanuman to fetch water from the River Ganga, in order to worship Lord Shiva. When Hanuman failed to return at the appointed time for the pooja, Rama unleashed an arrow onto the rocky slope of the hillock and water sprang forth, which today is called Rama Theertham. During the summer and rainy seasons, the waterfall dropping from a height of about 30 feet, falls on the bathing ghat behind the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
