The Thenmala Dam is considered to be one of the longest reservoirs and popular picnic spots in Kerala. This dam was constructed under the Kallada Irrigation and Tree Crop Development Project.
It has been built near the confluence of Chenduruney, Kazhuthurutty and Kulathupuzha rivers. The confluence forms a lake which is around 26 sq km in area. Boating can be enjoyed in the nearby reservoir.

Thenmala is located in Kollam district in Kerala. It is near to boundary areas of kerala to Tamil Nadu. You can see a lot of tamil guys there. But the climate and nature of Thenmala is purely of Kerala. The site consists of hill and forest areas. The Kallada River is flowing there and there is a huge Thenmala Dam, worth seeing is present on the river. I had enjoyed the great cool climate, a lot of Monkeys, and the simplicity of the place. The place is eco-friendly. I walked through the dam areas, camera is allowed and it is very cheap in price, only 5 Rs per person.More » « Less
