About Tiger Hill

83%
voted as clean

Tiger Hill is the best point in Darjeeling for watching sunrise. Located at a height of 7,407 feet above sea level, the hilly trails through the mountains lead to the hill top. On a clear day, the entire Himalayan range can be seen. It is at a distance of 11 km from the main city of Darjeeling.

Sunrise tours to Tiger Hill are arranged by hotels. Normally, the pickup time from the hotel is around 4 am. It is better to reach a little early in order to secure a place. There are tea stalls selling flavoured Darjeeling tea along with snacks. There are also shops from where one can pick up souvenirs like hand crafted items or picture post cards of Kanchenjunga and Darjeeling.

"Outstanding view" new review

Outstanding view. Is the third highest peak in the world. This is the must visit place when in Darjeeling. The sunrise and the pouring of the sunrays on the Kanchenjunga is a lifetime memory. Few things to remember: Reach there as early as possible to get a good place to stand to get the view as lots of visitors will be there.

Breathtaking view of the Magnanimous Himalaya. Try going early so that you can stand in front row. It becomes very crowded later. Wear shoes and proper winter clothes its very cold there in the open.

Though we reluctantly reached this place very early in the morning it was a lifetime experience to see the Sahastra Rashmi spreading its web on the Kanchanganga peaks to glisten it golden. Too beautiful to put it in words.

"Sunrise Point"

  • 5.50/7

Should reach the place by 4.30 early in the morning to get a better view. Due to clouds we were unable to view the magical sunrise of Darjeeling. The roads to Tiger Hill badly needs repairing.

This is one of the important point to see sunrise, too much crowd always there. You can see Kanchenjunga mountain here perfectly and nice sunrise can be seen. You have to start very early from hotel.

"Mesmerising Sunrise"

  • 7.00/7

I had visited the Tiger Hill in the morning of 2nd December, 2014. We had to start at 4am in order to witness the sunrise. If you're lucky, you'll get the heavenly glimpses of the Kanchendzonga, the first rays of the rising sun on the peak. I was lucky enough to witness the 'Sleeping Buddha', captured some lifetime shots which portray the changing colour of the Kanchendzonga.

"Riot display of Colors in Kanchenjungha-Sunrise from Tiger Hills"

  • 5.50/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
A visit to the Tiger Hills is definitely a paisa vasool keeping in mind the nominal entry fees of Rs 30(Inside Tower) and Rs 10( Outside Tower) per head.
The drive to the Observatory Tower from Darjeeling should be done as early as possible because of limited chairs inside the tower. We were a bit late and had to stand till the first beam of the sun was visible in the horizon. After the first beam, it really doesn't make a difference because every person calmly seated till then, jumps here and there in excitement, looking in every direction to enjoy the mystic Kanchenjungha on one side and the pristine sunrise on the other.
Because of high altitude and strong wind, it is advisable to be well equipped with sufficient woolen garments. Carry packets of nuts and biscuits as you will get nothing apart from chips and coffee/tea there.
After watching the sunrise, rush to your vehicle as soon as possible because due to only one lone road downhill, traffic jams are very common.

"Good sightseeing depending on season"

  • 4.00/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Tiger Hill is a good place to witness the sunrise, there's no doubt about it. But whether this place will be attractive, depends upon season and weather. Skies with attractive clouds, visibility of the Kanchendzonga/Kanchenjunga is possible only if you visit at the right season of the year. No fooding outlet available here; only some local vendors selling tea/coffee temporarily as this place is far away from locality. This place requires entry fee, it was free earlier.
