About Tiger Hill

voted as clean

Tiger Hill is the best point in Darjeeling for watching sunrise. Located at a height of 7,407 feet above sea level, the hilly trails through the mountains lead to the hill top. On a clear day, the entire Himalayan range can be seen. It is at a distance of 11 km from the main city of Darjeeling.

Sunrise tours to Tiger Hill are arranged by hotels. Normally, the pickup time from the hotel is around 4 am. It is better to reach a little early in order to secure a place. There are tea stalls selling flavoured Darjeeling tea along with snacks. There are also shops from where one can pick up souvenirs like hand crafted items or picture post cards of Kanchenjunga and Darjeeling.

Tiger Hill is situated 11 KM away from Darjeeling Town and it's highest railway station of Darjeeling Himalayan toy train. We reached Tiger Hill early morning around 4:00 because we plan to see morning views from Tiger hill, very fascinating view when the sun rays falls upon Mt. Kanchendzonga. Great landscape view !!

It is around 5 kilometers from Railway station. We can see the full view of Kanchenjaunga. Sun rise is special. Telescopic view gives an additional enjoyment.

"Beauty at its best"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Dec 30, 2016
The most exciting viewpoint of Darjeeling to view Kanchenjunga at it's best.. You need to get up at around 3 am to reach over there by sharp 4 am to relish the complete gradual process of sunrise thoroughly from the point.. The car parking and the long stretched stiff way to reach the viewpoint is a bit tiresome and not good for 60 up members in your family.. But once you reach there, it's worth the wait.. The temperature is extremely cold out there since it's approx 8465 ft. Once the sun rises from right behind of a peak in east and the rays reflect on the peaks of Kanchenjunga in the west, the whole scenario resembles heaven.. Even though the gallery that's been made to view the sunrise isn't worth containing even a 100 people altogether, since it's under construction by the Govt. It can be expected in the coming days that it will eventually expand.. A beautiful write up is out there on Darjeeling and Kanchenjunga along the same line.

"Visit in the morning"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Oct 13, 2016
The sightseeing was good but the weather was cloudy as we could not get a view of Kanchenjunga peak from Tger Hills. Perhaps the bad weather massacred our plan plus the timing of our visit was not right. We should have visited at 4 in the morning.

This place is a very good sightseeing place. It is worth seeing this. When the sunrises we were very delightful to watch it. Amazing one with the colours. Still some more arrangements can be made here to stand and view this.

Onward mid May tiger hill is most of the time covered with fog and clouds, so popular and spectacular sunrise scene you will miss, crowd of cabs disappoint you too, this is on night so with children your visit will be hectic, so start as early as possible to avoid cab crowd in morning.

"Golden Morning of Kanchenjunga"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted May 30, 2016
If visited in tourist season i.e. Sep-Oct and April May, one can see golden peaks Kanchenjunga even from Chowrasta, but how the peak turns golden from white (ash) can be viewed only from Tiger Hills. For all the nature lovers who packed their bags just to explore more of North Bengal Tiger Hill is a must visit destination. To explore the panoramic view of rising sun at Tiger Hills, you have to spoil your dear early morning sleep. Cabs/taxis are available on either share rental or private rental basis. It will take around 25-30 minutes to reach the peak and then, just wait for the sun-rise. A picture which comes to existence when the first ray of sun strikes the peaks of kanchenjunga and the clouds beneath it turns golden, is mesmerizing. Though the view may last for few minutes, but it is worth of all efforts.

Tea/Coffee are available at the hill itself (at double price), but it is needed to keep you warm and enjoy the scene. Don't forget to take your gloves and winter clothes, at 4 in the morning it's very chilly on the top.

From here you can see the Kanchenjunga hill (k2) during the sunrise. When the sun ray strikes on that hill that whole area will be as if made of gold and charm as diamond that are the awesome moment during the sight. At tiger hill a garden is builded and on that garden, a movie song's was shooted.
