Tirumala Venkateswara Temple is a very popular temple located in the hill town of Tirumala or Tirupati at an altitude of about 2799 feet, in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. This is a temple dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara, who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is a landmark temple for every Vaishnavaite.

This temple is on the bucket list of almost all Hindus around the world. The Tirupati hill comprises of seven peaks and represents the seven heads of Adisesha, and Tirumala Venkateshwara temple is, hence, also called “the temple of the seven hills.” Constructed in Dravidian architecture, it is said that the construction started in 300 AD. It is also the richest temple in the world as it possesses most wealth and constantly gets donations from all over the world. Several devotees also walk up the hill instead of driving up as part of their extreme belief and devotion for Lord Venkateshwara.

This temple has used the most gold in its construction and also has a golden entrance which is known as Bangaruvakilu.

The town is easily accessible from all major cities in the South of India. There are buses plying to Tirupati throughout the day and several trains are also available.

"Must Visit temple"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted 3 months ago
Lord Balaji temple is definitely THE reason devotees go to Tirupati. It's definitely a humble experience, but do your research well to ensure a smooth and quick darshan. Book your tickets (and extra ladoos) online, select the date and time slots well (mid week, non vacation/ festive periods, early morning/ evening preferred) and be there on time. There are specific dress codes and restrictions about what you can carry with you in the temple. So research ahead to avoid last minute hassle. Lastly, there are time restrictions on travel time from base of the mountain from toll gate till the temple and vise versa. So keep a check on the speed of your car to avoid penalty.

"Darshan is really eye catching"

  • 7.0/7

The darshan is really eye catching. Though there is lot of rush the darshan is organised very well. We can book either online through Tirumala. Org or through any TTD office or in person. Special darshan is Rs. 300 and we can have darshan within 3 or 4 hours. Senior citizens have separate darshan timings.

"Great Holy Place in AP"

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is one of the well known venkateshwara temple that located in Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh. Tirupathi turned as a famous Hindu pilgrim city because of Tirumala temple, which welcomes lakhs of people in a day. Devotees have a great faith in god (Lord Venkateshwara). Even it is sited too far, many devotees from every corner will visit this Paradise. Once you reach the place you will forget all the hustles and bustles in your life as it offer a peaceful, fresh and divine breeze which refresh your body and mind. There are many other attractions to explore like Iskon Temple, Govindaraja Temple, Padmavathi Temple, Tiruchanoor Temple and many others.

I visited Tirumala last year during the summer holidays with my family. The friendly atmosphere and heart soothing scenic nature welcomed me in a great way. Maintenance is very good, but beware of robbers. Once you enter the city, you should be very cautious as there is a possibility of robbery. People and the Devasthanam staff are very friendly. We had made an online booking for Kalyanotsavam in advance, so we have done with darshan with in 2-3 hours. In compartments the climate was too calm and moreover, we got a free food from trust. Overall security was tight in every checkpoint and they won't allow to take even knife and tobacco by mistake.

After Darshan we came out and stand in a queue for ladoos for 1 hour.Over all the experience was good and i suggest my friends to visit.

"The management must look to the crowds and manage"

  • 3.0/7
  • Posted Aug 18, 2015
The temple does not bother what dress you wear, for special darshan the queue managers do not allow male with pants, shirt, etc and want only dhoti, traditional dress to enter but after a few yards of walking in queue no one bothers about dress code it means they preach one and practice another. Similarly, there are none cleaning the walkways or queue area when people are around. No cameras are installed to see the restive crowd and the place is not senior citizen friendly. I am sure some senior citizens are going to collapse with exhaustion and die some day, it is scary.

"Second largest temple in world"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Aug 8, 2015
It is the second largest temple in world, here travellers should come for preplanned / Special Darshan available 300 per person. Pilgrims can come here in a passage of foot steps from lower Tirupati, buses are available from lower Tirupati at Rs 45 for adults and 25 for children. I finally advise travellers to come to this place through package trip only.
