Tombs of Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali, his father is situated in Srirangapatnam, about 15 km from the Mysore City. Tipu Sultan built the tombs for his parents in 1784 AD but he was buried there in 1799 AD. The tombs look very similar to the Golconda tombs with an elegant square chamber with a brick dome. The excellent workmanship is evident in the carved stone windows, ebony doorways artistically designed with inlaid ivory. There is an ancient mosque inside the complex.

"The mausoleum of Tiger of Mysore"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Jan 30, 2017
The Gumbaz in Srirangapatna is an impeccable mausoleum that houses the remains of Tipu Sultan, his father Hyder Ali and his mother Fathima Begum. Built in 1748 by Tipu Sultan for his parents, he was also buried here in 1799.
The captivating Persian style of architecture, surrounded by a beautiful garden and the imposing structure of Gumbaz is enough to captivate you. The verandah is dotted with pillars made of black granite. The doors are coated with ivory and showcase brilliant craftsmanship of the era.

"A vast place"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Dec 19, 2015
This is such a vast palace of the emperors that houses mostly the historic photos of their periods. While this helps in understanding and educating ourselves with the history of India's struggle that this country and especially the emperors underwent for freedom. So mind-blowing, audio guides are available at a cost.

"Revisit History"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Oct 18, 2015
A fascinating place to revisit history. It is so closely maintained to its original form. I spent my several weekends there. With family or with friends, you could take anybody and everybody there. Best time to visit is day time before noon as the scorching sun makes it a little difficult otherwise on the barren stone surface.

It's a must go if you are in Srirangapatna. The tomb all set in off White is beautifully contrasted by the Black pillars and floor. It looks very beautiful against the gardens and you can click some nice pictures here. Clean and well-maintained

"Memories of Tipu Sultan"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Aug 7, 2015
It is located in Srirangapatna. It is about 150 km from Bangalore and about 140 km from Mysore. It is tomb of Tipu Sultan. From here 2 km we can see mark of Tippu Sultan battle done. This is well designed with white lily flowers. We can get buses from Bangalore as well as Mysore directly to here. I finally advise travellers to go to this place for a real view of Tipu Sultan's battle realty. Several photos can be seen here.

Nice, calm and a pious place to visit. The samadhi of Tipu Sultan, and other such enchanting places add to its piousity. A true memento of royality. You just need time to dig the beauty of this place.
