Top Station Overview

Ranked 1 of 63 sightseeing in Munnar

Top Station was an important trade centre in the early days. Top Station is situated about 1700 m above sea level at about 41 km from Munnar town, on Munnar – Kodaikanal road.

Top Station is a favourite spot for many, as it provides a panoramic view of Munnar and surrounding areas. As Munnar has a varying altitude of 1500 - 2450 m above sea level, it appears mostly as a green carpet from Top Station. The Shola forests, rolling grasslands, valleys, water bodies and tea, coffee and spice plantations when viewed from this location provides a breath-taking experience.

Top Station is the highest point in Munnar which is easily accessible to tourists. It is also the natural habitat of the rare Nilakurinji plants (strobilanthus). Nilakurinji plants, which bloom only once in twelve years, envelope the hill sides of Top Station in bright blue. The next bloom of Nilakurinji plants is supposed to take place in the year of 2018.

Top Station, situated atop Munnar, borders Idukki District of Kerala and Theni District of Tamil Nadu. It is a place mostly shrouded with mist. But when the sky is clear, Madurai District of Tamil Nadu can be viewed from this spot.

Must Visit !!

This place is like a end point in the route full of attractions. Its located around 36 kms from Munnar town. The roads are good, lead through lot of other attractions but narrow. One has to walk around 0.5-1 km from parking to reach the end view point, which gives a wonderful view of the hills around. There is an entry fees of 25/- per adult and 15/- per child.Camera charges - 15/-Sometimes the traffic can be very huge if you are visiting in weekends especially in summers which is the peak tourist season for Munnar. If possible try to avoid weekends and visit on a weekday.

Scenic Munnar (Top Station)

These picture were clicked at the Top Station of Munnar. As we all know Kerela is known for it's scenic beauty. By seeing the top station of Munnar I realized why Kerela is named 'God's Own Place'. The place is so beautiful that know one can miss going there. Specially the 4*4 rode on the jeep was tremendously amazing. It took around one and a half hour to reach there, but seeing such a scenic and sarene view those one and a half hour travelling become worth. Basically, this place is at the border of two south India states namingly Kerela and Tamil Nadu. There's a tea factory on the top hill which is a must to go. I recommend everyone if travelling to Munnar, don't miss the Top Station. It's worth a penny.

Top station

I had been just today to this place, and I first started with this place because this is at the top most point and if you cover this place early it is better or you will see too much crowd and traffic. On the way you will enjoy the nature, full of greenery.

Found my soul

It looks like an Album cover of a great artist. Long trees and a blue hill range of this location doesn't need any description. It's majestic, wild and splendid at the same time. These kind of landscapes make you forget everything else in your life. I would like to come here with Dad and show him this place just to make him understand what I am up to in my life as photographer. This photo was captured on my way to Top station. It's at distance of 2/3 hours from Munnar city.

A little hyped point but amazingly beautiful

You have to walk almost a quarter km to reach the ticket counter, Rs.25 for Indians, and you will see warning signs for height phobic and heart patient people. From this point you have to descend for another quarter km to reach the top station. A disappointment for people who would expect to go higher and hoping to get a selfie at a scary height. But still the view is astounding and you can see two parallel mountain ranges and the beautiful valley with clouds hovering above, with Kerala on one side and Tamil Nadu on the other.

Awesome view, mountains, horizons, depth

Top station is around 36km from Munnar city. Mattupetty dam & devikulam are on the way. You need to walk approximately a kilometer to reach the view point. There is an entrance fee of 20INR. From the gate you need to climb down the hill to reach view point. Climbing up back is the tough part. But the view is worth. It's quite, qast and deep. Try spending some moments there!
