Hotel Review of The Royal Retreat
Comments: the regal décor all over is just amazing in that it comes naturally, surprise is key to pleasure here. antiques/artifacts/ paintings…evening we had dinner under flaming torch on the classical folk songs; ‘manganiyaar/langa’…and we all took to fiber dance floor with finest wines being served. We have been to very many heritage resorts offering contemporary comforts but this stands above all those, much much above!—It indeed is ‘different’,God’s seemed to have gathered to bless this piece of land, with such an ambience that one can never take it off the mind and heart, moments become lifetime memories. [it is an oft –repeated for such write-ups but it really means, as I have ‘thank- you’notes from all my guests!
songs/dances/ treks etc
Overall experience, one having lived a fairy-tale..
Till recently, it was a personal home of an art connoisseur with one block of 13 rooms and three cottages and more than that he has big business of exports of handicrafts heritage items and for that he had a huge workshop employing over 100 people and a warehouse. It is thus more a home museum than a ‘retreat’/’hotel’—set in lush oasis.
When he turned it into a commercial entity they themselves surprised guests [mostly foreign buyers, their agents] found peace and happiness as reflected in extending their stay or repeat visits and also recommending it to their friends /relations abroad. We ourselves were hunting for a real god place and this came upon us suddenly and during our very first visit, my husband, Vijay shah, stayed back asking driver to go over and bring necessities. I found him restless as during entire week-end as in words of Oscar Wild, ‘expression is as necessary to him as leaves to black branches of tree’ and my husband is basically a poet…
Well, someone said, each one of us has a poet in oneself, this place evokes it.The place, according to my husband is poetry by itself. - But so ‘poetic’ that it can’t be described into words. To me, I too decided to camp as I wanted to see the attitude of staff, water pressure in baths, food preparation etc—all this for upcoming event in August 2007 where we would have our guests from Europe /US etc.
We thus did a deal for 6 days and hired the entire property and organized rides, folk songs/dances..etc
Best Experience: . I then was left to myself and in the quietude of inner self, I could seek the melody of life—I could be with infinite. Overwhelmed by serenity of flowers, listening to movements of clouds in the sky[August month is rainy in udaipur], rustle of earth while nature walk among exotic birds…one of the finest place to align with nature, that brings equanimity, peace, and harmony. They have jharokhas[ canopied balconies] in rooms; lying there , I could sing to sun, speak to stars…
Worst Experience: Well, This property is being developed now with addition of 30 more similar rooms..and it seemed to have lacked in professional approach which in a way is very good...but then some of recreational activities offered were not available, Retreat management is very considerate and they own their own gave 'concession' while final billing, however, they have taken all our suggestion seriously and as promised ,we happened to visit the retreat to entertain our guests and found its having undergone metamorphosis. swimming etc was all available and we had so much to do that we hardly felt lack of shooting gallery or billiard room...but now it is all there and much more...

Hotel Review of The Royal Retreat
Globe-trotter; a seasoned traveler like me and all my guests, ’high-end’ tourists from countries like Austria, Holland, Germany, US etc found this lyrical sojourn, the retreat refreshingly 'different' to the extent that it made some to say, Utopia does exist. And the holiday here was termed celestial holiday in that it can more than meet the demands of even most demanding tourists--pl visit their ‘not-a-very-well-done’ website[royalretreatudaipur.com—from here you will have to satisfy as to how it looks because last three...
