The palatial Umed Bhawan Palace was built in the early 1800s by Maharaja Umed Singh, the ruler of Kota. He used to stay within the old fort but required a modern palace as his residence and commissioned Sir Swinton Jacob to undertake the construction in 1905 and thus Umed Bhawan Palace was built. Today it is a heritage hotel managed by the Welcome group.
