The town of Uttarkashi is considered as the Kashi of the North (Uttar). It is also known to be the abode of gods and goddesses because, just like Kashi, there are many temples dedicated to various gods and goddesses.
There are over 30 temples in the town. Thousands of devotees come here during the occasion of ‘Magh Mela’ to take a holy dip along with their local deities in the waters of the Bhagirathi.
